I don't know if most of you have taken the time to think about this but almost every retailer is selling UT2k4 with some sort of rebate. EBgames has 30$ in rebates including the 10$ Manufacturer Rebate for people coming with UT2k3. This seems incredible to me, a game with one of the most successful DEMO release of all time and you get the full game for 10$. Atari could sell Unreal Tournament 2004 in a recycled paper bag and break sale records. Also don't forget to add in all the promotions going on from companies such as Alienware and CreAtive. All things considered I feel safe expecting no less than earth shattering numbers on the servers this summer! |

That probably would be every AMERICAN retailer ...
There's no sign of any special rebates over here.
In fact ... it even looks like we're paying EXTRA compared to the average american player.
UK SE : 50 Pounds = +/- $100
Dutch SE : 60 Euro = +/- $70
And there's even rumours that suggest that even the Atari/Epic-discount won't apply to us.
I guess WE are paying for the 'cheap' prices the Americans get ...

Hmmm, because the download of the demo was so succesfull doesn't mean that the sale of the game will be succesfull (it propably will, but no guarantee)
And I also think that the SE bugger is way too expensive here in the netherlands.. |

That might be a point to look into, I don't have any resorces in Europe or connections with Atari.uk so it may take some time and finess what is the price for the standard edition? Here it is 40$ retail and the SE is almost the same on EBgames.com I think because of the massive amount of preorders they have recieved they are safe taking less off the top.

One thing to consider is the transfer rate between dollars & pounds/euros, it's a lot lower/bigger (depending on your point of view) than in recent years. For example I worked out I could order a graphics card (9600SE) from the US, pay $25 in shipping charges, and it'd still be cheaper than the cheapest I could get it over here in the UK!
Maybe us europeans could order the game from the US and get it shipped over here. Difficult, but as I said it's getting more & more worth it... |

Standard edition (in NL) : € 49,95
There are shops like Dynabyte that offer 10% discount, but that's what they do with all software.
Likewise Dynabyte has the standard edition at € 43,70 if you pre-order (no discount possible), but again it's like that for all the pre-orders they advertise for (ie : Far Cry, BF:Vietnam and Splinter Cell 2 are identical).
I doubt there's any shop where it'd be cheaper as prices are usually fixed ...
And like Gandalf said ... for some weird reason hardware & software tends to cost more then mere dollar-conversion could explain.
(and don't even get me started on cd's which averages at € 20-25 even if it is a re-release or just an old cd ... ) |

And just in case :
the dollar -> euro conversion is +/- $ 1,20 <-> € 1,-
So if it weren't for shipping-costs would be cheaper to order in the USA and pray customs missed the package ... (or else you'd pay taxes) |

I think part of the reason is because Epic is a American company though ut2k4 is probably made in China so it shouldn't be that hard to ship a few crates of in Europe with no extra cost

For the most up to date conversion rates, goto www.xe.com
so far the only US retailer that ships to Europe that I've found is http://www.compgeeks.com/ - they don't seem to add on tax. Example of shipping costs - a graphics card was about $24 shipping, as I said even with this is was marginally cheaper to get it from the US! Unfortunately they aren't stocking UT2004....
If anyone else knows of any US computing retailers that ship worldwide, let us/me know! |

IF you had read the 'gone gold'-messages for UT'03 last year then you'd know that production is done locally ... (ie : using cd-production facilities in the USA and Europe, etc.).
The only thing they had to ship (or rather send by courier) were the gold masterdiscs. |
