Graphics engines just keep getting better and better don't they? I mean hell, compare something that was released last year to anything 2 years prior, and you'll probably find yourself amazed at the difference. Well, what could possibly be the next generation of gaming engine, the Torque Engine has made some screenshots available, and I must say, I'm impressed.
To quote from the press release:
Quote: |
Torque Shader Engine (TSE) is built on the robust AAA Torque Game Engine technology with improvements to the interior and exterior rendering engines, improved terrain rendering and additional functionality including:
- An API independent graphics layer currently supporting DirectX 9, but designed with forthcoming OpenGL support in mind.
- New lighting system.
- Procedural generation of shaders that support: Dynamic lighting, bumpmapping, detail maps, specular, cubemapping, glow, refraction, reflection and texture UV animation.
- Powerful shader interface allowing easy integration of custom shaders and effects.
- Versatile vertex buffer and texture management, with support for static, dynamic and volatile vertex buffers.
“We’re excited to be giving those coming by the nVIDIA booth at GDC a sneak peak at this as we get closer to launching our Early Adopter program for TGE owners,” comments Jay Moore, Evangelist for GarageGames.

Definitely some great looking stuff in my book, and if you're interested at taking a gander, head on over and read the official press release. |

I like the concept, but wasn't overly impressed with the screenshots I've seen so far. At least compared to what I've seen coming out lately and screens from future games. Maybe I'm just biased toward UT though... |

well, it is at least a lot cheaper to buy than the unreal engine, you can scratch the last 3 zero's of the unreal-engine price, and then you have the torque engine price.. BUT unreal engine is much cleaner.. |
