Not to be outdone by other developers at the GDC, Microsoft unveiled their newest gaming technology dubbed XNA. Here is a screen cap of one of the demos called Film Noir.

I was most impressed with the looks of the Rocks glass on the table more so than anything else. The car crash demo is pretty slick too. I am definitely happy to be a gamer right now. |

that looks so good.. i watched the noir one first, then morph, then crash.. the noir one was grapicily stunning, the morph was just cool to see. and the car crash thing was great! i hope they will make a game with that technoigy, imagine the racing games in a few year! and porn stars are out of jobs soon to just look at the noir movie! looks almost real.. in black and white. |

this is very cool... don't know if it will be possible to have many those morph creatures in a game or many crashes like that. isn't so amazing to me individually if it can't be used in games as it is. but it's still very nice and I doubt it is finished |

I haven't looked at them yet, cause i'm still at work, but later.
Remember that technology has to start somewhere and it's usually the case that people develop software ahead of hardware using advanced technology. When hardware becomes fast enough and the software has been tweaked and modified to use the new hardware technology, then something is released and people play it on their computers.
I remember thinking that Half-life was ultra-realistic when I first saw it. imagine game characters that respond to the situation and actually move their mouths when they speak!!
A time will come when even this new technology will seem as trivial as color film. By then we'll have Holographic Games.
Ever wonder whatever happened to the phrase Virtual Reality? |

The videos looks really great but it isnīt really that impressive until we see it on our own computers or something that we could get for a reasonable amount of money. Seeing really detailed stuff is cool but I mean we could all fantasize about the future but itīs more fun living in the present !

It's not really a new technology... it's actually a new standard.... sorta like the successor to DirectX... but the way it's coming out, it'll get M$'s hands into a lot of the gaming industry... so I don't know how comfortable I am with it... |

Microsoft is already fondling the gamers in an inappropriate manner. No doubt about it, they have bought the cookie jar, and as long as companies decide to put their brand of cookies in it, Microsoft doesn't have to worry at all.
I'm more concerned about the other markets Microsoft is trying to get into. Cars, TV's, Home Theatres ?...
I've already had to "reboot" my phone (albeit, not an MS product)... I'd rather not have to do it with all my electronics. I think with the increase in technology, they are forgetting that there is great power in simplicity.
My $.02 anyway. |
