Man, I tell you what... I've been using Mozilla Firefox for the longest time (since Firebird 0.5, actually), and I have to say - this is a totally awesome browser.
My personal viewpoints aside, I noticed this evening that Mozilla Firefox 0.9 has been released, and I'm downloading it right now. For those of you who are wondering just what exactly Firefox is, it's an alternative browser that has a built-in download manager, the ability to operate with a tabbed interface (uber-kickass) and a ton of other nifty features.
For those of you who are running Firefox 0.8, here's what's new:
Quote: |
* New Default Theme
An updated Default Theme now presents a uniform appearance across all three platforms - a new crisp, clear look for Windows users. Finetuning for GNOME will follow in future releases.
* Comprehensive Data Migration
Switching to Firefox has never been easier now that Firefox imports data like Favorites, History, Settings, Cookies and Passwords from Internet Explorer. Firefox can also import from Mozilla 1.x, Netscape 4.x, 6.x and 7.x, and Opera. MacOS X and Linux migrators for browsers like Safari, OmniWeb, Konqueror etc. will arrive in future releases.
* Extension/Theme Manager
New Extension and Theme Managers provide a convenient way to manage and update your add-ons. SmartUpdate also notifies you of updates to Firefox.
* Smaller Download
Windows users will find Firefox is now only 4.6MB to download.
* Help
A new online help system is available
* Lots of bug fixes and improvements
Copy Image, the ability to delete individual items from Autocomplete lists, SMB/SFTP support on GNOME via gnome-vfs, better Bookmarks, Search and many other refinements fine tune the browsing experience. |
Man, I just finished the download (god bless 3mb cable) and so I'm gonna check it out. Let us know what you think in the comments section |

I've been using Mozilla now for quite a while. Switched from Opera, which I switched from Netscrape. Never liked IE all that much.
Anyway, I had downloaded Firefox a long time back, but never loaded it for some reason. I think I may have to do that. Mozilla has been very good to me, but from what I hear, firefox is lighter, faster, stronger. (We have the technology, we can rebuild him.)
I encourage all out there to check out either Mozilla or Firefox and check out the extended features like mouse gestures and tabbed browsing. |

the mouse gestures is not nessesary i say, i never tryed em, but i dont think i need em, go on, try to convince me if you like.
and whats the deal with that tabbed browsing, whats the advantage?
if its room on your toolbar, my toolbar is sideways on the left hand side of my screen, so i got plenty of room, my windows media player 9 is in there (the toolbar version) and i got loadsa quick launch stuff, and tons of open programs, and it never filled up.. well now im lying, it did once.. no twice.. once i got a popup attack, and once.. well it involves.. lets say.. no i cant say it here, 'people' will get mad, but lets say 18+ stuff...
no damnit, not horror movies!
anyway, i think 0.9 is better, but 0.8 works fine to. |

Some people actually enjoy having a clean looking taskbar, so yeah, tabbed browsing helps there, especially when I've got on average about 10 tabs open.
As for mouse gestures, I don't use the typical gestures, but mouse rockers I cannot live without anymore.
Hold down the right button, click the left, go back, and vice-versa to go forward. No need for some mouse which has buttons for everything, and much more comfortable than clicking a back button in either the main screen or the context menu.
It's a personal preference, but that's the power of FireFox, the ability to surf how you want to. I could go on all day listing the features I like out of FireFox, but that would mean very little to most people, as that's not the way they want to surf. But again, that's FireFox's power, the ability to surf the web how you want to, not how some company tells you. |

Yeah, the Mouse Rockers rock! I dont' even know any of the other ones.
I dont' use a bar on the left, I like to have every posible inch of browser for displaying images.. uh, I mean webpages....
The tabbed interface is also something I like as I can easily see all loaded pages right in the brower window without cluttering the taskbar.
Back to Rockers... Just hold right mouse down and press the left button. Try it. See how easy it is? That goes back one page. Do the reverse and go forward a page.
In Opera, you can hold the right button down and just click the left numerous times to go back several pages. In Mozilla I have to let go of the right button each time, but it's still nice. You get used to it real easy. no more moving the mouse up to the button on top or right-clicking and hunt for the back option. |

yes, i got a logitech mouse that has like 8 buttons, so i got my forward and reverse buttons on there to, and i got em on my keyboard..
but the going back and forward diddent work, i guess i need to instal em first..
and yes, i have my desktop set up for large wallpapers and images, i dont even have desktop icons, ccouse they block my field on my wallpaper. and my taskbar is small and on the left, i had it that it slided in the side, so it was completly gone, but after a year i dropped that, it wasnt good for photoshopping etc.
that way when my taskbar disapeared, youd just see my desktop and it just had the wallpaper on it, so it was like one big picture or screensaver or full screen spplication. |

I'm not sure about firefox, but Mozilla's mouse gestures have to be downloaded separately. After a reboot, the back and forth browsing should be on by default. |
