There is an interesting article over at Slate today. It is about the new wave of 'stealth' games and how they are winning out against the more traditional 'violent' games. Which brings me to today's question. What type of video game do you prefer the most? Stealth or Violent? FPS or RPG? Discuss. |

I prefer action fps over most types of games. That doesn't mean I won't try out MGS: Snake Eater or Starcraft Ghost. Both of those games look killer. Also the SC:PT multiplayer looks really fun but I don't have Xbox live so I couldn't play it when I rented it. I only made it to the train, single player, section of PT before going back to UT2004. They really need to work on the save system or maybe I just suck. |

me likes voilence. hehe.. well, not voilence in real life but in games, I like things like Tactical Ops (without sniperrifles).. Don't like any realistic games, too slow.. hehe.. So as long as it's arcade like I'll propably like it.. |

I like it best when the game gives me the tools to go either route without making any of the choices too obvious or too easy ...
As for rpg's ... I've yet to see one that is a true *ROLE* playing game and not a diablo-clone.
Deus Ex 2 and NWN came pretty close in some aspects. |

Bah. DX2 was too linear. DX... now that's a real man's game. |

Violence is always good, but being given the option of stealth as an alternative would be great also. Having stealth forced upon you (ala a certain scream-inducing Jedi Knight 2 level) is just frustrating. |

Hmm.. depends on the game, but I believe in a combination of both. Kindofa walk quietly, but carry a big stick deal. When I deathmatch I have a tendency to sneak & cap people, but again that depends on the game. Right now I'm playing Thief 3 and you can't deathmatch the game. I am really liking it, and I'm finding when I do have to duke it out that it's not a really elegant solution. Yet when I play UT, I am cramming my mini-gun downs someones throat, or a flak up some poor souls arse. |

Can't remember the exact map name, but it's at that hangar immediately before you get on Galak Fyar's ship, The Doomgiver (at some point in the map there's a fight between Luke and Desann). You have to sneak around the place, and if you get spotted the alarm gets triggered, and you immediately lose the game. It's a very difficult level, I generally just use noclip to fly through the walls to the end of the level... |
