Well I went out and bought Doom 3 the other day, and finally installed it and played it last night. I only have one thing to say about it.
It completely sucked
Now dont get me wrong, the visuals were great, but every 3 minutes the game crashed on me! I was getting soo pissed, so I just said screw it, and I'm taking the game back today after work (incase your wondering, I have more than the recommended specs, and I did have all the patches, for both windows, and Doom 3, along with all the latest drivers). I played for an entire hour last night, and only got past the first level (where I found the scientist sending the transmission) and then got back to the elevator. by that time I was soo pissed from the game crashing every 3 min that I just gave up (it had just crashed again and I had forgotten to hit the quicksave button). I only hope HL2 is soo much better. Oh well time to go get my 40 bucks back! |

Are you OCing at all? I had many crashes when OCing. I turned it down a bit and then it ran smooth as a baby's butt.
Also, I used Driver Cleaner (and Cab Cleaner) to make sure my drivers were nice and cleaned off before I DLed and installed Nvidia's latest.

Doom 3's performance was right on par with FarCry on my rig. I have no complaints about the engine or presentation. The lack of advanced AI and limited variations in enemies were the major issues I had with Doom 3. |

I just felt the end was WAY too easy. I played the game on the hardest and barely even breathed hard taking on the end guy (who I wont disclose now to keep those who havent beaten it happy). They should have thrown a lot more at you like Doom 2. That was barely a fight to end all fights...
I'm disappointed in you hell. You can do better than that. |

dude people say i dont read things....
and no i dont do any OCing the only thing i could think it is is a driver problem, but i just installed it in my laptop and tried it out and it did the same thing (2 day old install of WinXP with all the updates and latest drivers) |

I'm willing to bet it's driver related. |

The recommended spec are bollocks. You need at least double the recommended spec to play doom 3, HL2 says you can play it with a 600mhz processor(?) |

P.O.S. - Point of sale? noooooo.
P.O.S. - Parents Over Shoulder? nooooo.
P.O.S. - Piece of shhhhtuff? bingo!
I think you'll find the majority of the community likes DOOM3 but to put your opinion on the front page as if it were "news" is really unprofessional, it's not the P.O.S. were used to getting around here (Positively Outstanding Service)
I did read your post and having more than the recommended requirements isn't all it takes. I had the latest greatest drivers and had to back them down one rev. When I get home I can tell you exactly what rev I'm on now, but having the latest greatest isn't always the answer.
There is a problem if your card is NOT a DX9 card and your using DX9 drivers. So hopefully you'll have an older driver still downloaded somewhere or one of your budz will.
What are your system specs? What video card do you have? (ATI or nVidia) |

I agree with Raven. It DOES suck. It ran fine on my computer, no issues, or anything. The game was just very cut-and-dried, and very bland. The textures were plain, the monsters weren't unusual, and the shadows looked no better than has already been done in games like Deus Ex 2. Overall? Thunbs down. Very disappointing. Not worth $30 let alone the $54 they were chargin for the piece of crap. |
