Sorry for the length....O and TOOL is going to do the sound track!!!!!
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/screens.html?page=81
I removed the pic for those with a 56k lol...sorry:)
For those that thought DOOM III wasn't that diferent than the curent build of UT...look again.......
Im an avid UT/ 2003/4 suporter/ fan guy most people here know me from the official Atari forum...so you know i love UT
BUT..
I'm realy excited about DOOM III and 2004. I'll mostly play 2004 all day and when the servers start to empty in the afternoon and it gets dark i'll defenatly switch over to DOOM no question.....because I was curious and looked around for some info on DOOM to see what it was going to be like....ive kept track of it for the ovious reason that it is a legend.......
I hadent seen that many screens that realy showed enought to say WOW thats a huge jump from UTs graphics......ive seen thies up till now http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/screenindex.html and thought they were GREAT.....and the MP wright up on www.gamespot.com seemed awsome......
But look around this sight
http://doomworld.com/doom3/
And look at thies MAG screens
http://www.dbb.at/doom3/

Tycho might like this Pez killed a thread that had like 60+ post in the first few hour for no reason about doom 3 wiping halo off the map and 2004 being the domenent on-line and doom domenant off line...... |

To me, DOOM III lacks originality. All of the screenshots I've seen thus far look like wax figures are coming at you. I mean really, look at that screenshot you posted...... Those "demons" look like something laughably plastic..... I had those as a KID!
I mean really..... here's something the guys at penny arcade came up with....

(NO, I did not mean to post the image, I think it's rude to 56kers, the link will do just fine, thank you very much)
*shrug* It'll remain to be seen. |

I've never said it looks as good as UT2004/3/whatever.
But it doesn't really compare to the latest build of the Unreal Engine itself. Watching those videos makes me drool over the new tech!
have to agree with Peoii. It does seem to lack originality. I mean, spiders? Unreal 2 anyone? Yah maybe they're a bit different but it's the same idea.
And the story is like identical to Doom1. Where's the fun in it?? |

Zen,
Pez is and always will be a starved for attention in his childhood now an asshole forum nazi. I lost respect for that dipshit long ago.
Sir B,
I personally think that someone is going to license the Doom 3 engine and make a game that blows D3 out of the water. Hell if I had the money I would do it because I have a great idea for a Final Fantasy movie type video game. |

Sincerly do you all think Doom 3 looks waxy/ bad..........hummmmm
I guess your right.....must be the specular lighting and bump maping....O well.
I'm most excited about the game play quirks......i.e blured vision when you get hit by somthing, needing your eyes to ajust to bright lights, needing air while runing.....fuzzy vision when/ after runing ect. those will realy add alot to game play
"Close-quarters battles seemed to get especially tense at times because of the game's disorientation effects, which cause your onscreen vision to blur if you take a direct hit from an enemy weapon--especially a point-blank blast from the shotgun, which not only blurs your view considerably, but also briefly jolts the screen."
Linkage to the quote(botom of the page)
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/preview_6073440.html
The animations of the creatures and people is awsome.......Thier realy was no story to the first doom....so whats the problem?.......read this http://www.dbb.at/doom3/doompage4.jpg ......it sounds prety good so far.....and the original doom was just a bunch of boxs.
You realy cant get any more original if they were trying to continue the Original Doom story insted of retelliing it. |

Indeed many of the ideas they have go towards an interesting playing field. The blurred vision, the jolting, etc. Those are all very positive points....
HOWEVER, when it comes right down to it, Doom 3 is little more than a platform with which to sell an engine. Thus far? I'm not impressed, and it's not something I'd consider buying to develop games with. To me, the UE has far more options, grace, system compatibility, and scriptability within it. Is this cause I'm a fanboy of it? no, it's cause that's how I view it from a programming standpoint.
Now granted, I havn't sat down and played Doom 3, nor will I til something official is released. So I can't say how it'd look in person. But from the screenshots (which by the way, I always put very little faith in, as they often are rendered using high settings that no normal machine could do, or they're taken taken then compressed into a format that makes them look worse), I'm not impressed with this game.... Heck, if you compiled all of the released screenshots of Doom3, you could prolly play the game with a slideshow viewer! It seems anytime they do anything remotely interesting, they release a screenshot of it. Why pay for the game when you can LEGALLY get the screenshots of the whole thing?
I dunno, it all remains to be seen.
(And yes, I do appreciate your posting, I just like to clerify when I do things that are seemingly "out of the norm".... Sorry if that came off wrong) |

Thats a realy funny idea.......it may just be a show piece......which is fine, It looks like they are making a good catalog.......and all the content and thought is thier to make a realy great game so.......like i sed,
Im UT all the way and Doom sems to be somthing compleatly differnt in look and play so........to me they signify the best of each side of a coin..... Half-Life may make Doom look like childs play.....time will tell. |

Tycho <-- I have absolutely no doubt such is the case. It's the same as what happened with Quake3, although Q3 has a much larger fanbase than it rightly should.
Still, I have to look at what Peoii has said and nod my head vigorously.
Look at how ALL of Carmack's Engines are laid out. One hug file serving everything and a bunch of little files doing everything else. No official map editor (not sure about that) no command line editor, no web administration (not sure)...so far, none of the stuff that makes the Unreal Engine so cool. Yah it might be easily moddable with community tools...but the question REALLY is, why isn't it more moddable with developer tools?
Basically, the way ALL Unreal Engine games are laid out into folders makes the process alot more simple, IMO. Adding content is almost a no-brainer with the UE where with the QE it's like stealing candy from a club bouncer. |
