Good afternoon all. As most of you know the Unreal University Tour hit Raliegh last weekend. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend due to finishing up my management training. However we sent Raven from our staff down to check it out. We were also lucky to work with Zenmaster, who also attended, on a cool reader contributed article. So we will have a two-part article for everyone. One by Zenmaster and the other by Raven. Head on over and check the first part out! |

Tycho, Raven....you there? My IRC isn't working from this location, so hopefully you will look here soon.
Zen asked if I might be able to contribute to your news on UU, and I found some time to do a writeup at least.
here ya go!

Unreal University: The Scoop
Unreal University was a big success. CNN, the WB, G4, The New York Times and the News and Observer all attended the event, along with over 250 peeps from the Unreal community (from all over the United States, Canada and perhaps even overseas) We had 2 LANs set up with top of the line ABS systems w/ the new Athlon 64, complete with 1 gig of corsair RAM (with sweet LED lights on them), the new GeforceFX cards, Logitech headphones and flat screen monitors. The cases were complete with see through side panels and green lights everywhere.
Almost all of the Epic guys were there, and a few Atari peeps as well, including PR_Flak and Pezman. The Epic guys held Round Table discussions at the end of each day to answer questions. The main classroom was quite nice, and held classes for Matinee, level design, vehicles and weapons design and more. There were side classrooms as well, with 3 classes happening at any one time. Breakfast snacks (donuts, etc) Lunch (decent sandwiches, chips and drinks) were all provided as part of your tiny $25 entry fee, which covered all classes and as much playing time as you could squeeze in. Amazing! Epic/Atari have really outdone themselves with this one. Great job guys!!!
The event will be highlighted on CNN Headline News Thursday, November 13, 2003 sometime between 7am-10am EST. The spot will last for 2 minutes and will include footage from the event, and interviews of Cliff and some of the mods, and hopefully some of the video I provided to them on tape (the New UT2004 Vehicles Trailer)
Oh yes, there will be a new UT2004 Vehicles Trailer released soon…most likely within the next week. The final touches are being put on now. This is my baby as I had the opportunity to play and capture all the shots, and did the production and compression as well. Look for it soon! .

few things i dont understand:
Maya 5 PLE tools will ship with 2004; the 2004 demo will not have the editor.
PLE tools?
When you shoot and hold your link alternate on an enemy they turn into a skeleton. They redid the skeleton to a high Polly more detailed model.
when does who turn in a skeleton?
thanks alot |

PLE = Personal Learning Edition. Maya 5 is about $2000, so of course it's not an option for Epic to include a free copy of the full version with every UT2004. PLE is a free edition (I think?) that still gets the job done.
I may have got this wrong (I've never played UT2004), but apparently when you kill someone with Link Gun secondary the victim turns into a skeleton. It might mean that when they're hit by Link Secondary they become a skeleton instead of glowing green, too, but like I say, I don't have first-hand experience. |

your right on the ple being free.
and yes after you kill them with the alt of the link they turn into skeletons.
also when your looking to link to someone on your team, their whole skin now has a greenish tint to it along with the green placemarker |

They have not implemented the capability to repeatedly play the same map over again, but you can play assault maps over and over again.
|
huh??
so everytime the map restarts things are move around?? or u cant just set the map list to 1 map? |

That's the thing:
In UT, if you chose a map without anything in your rotation, it would keep playing that map; in UT2k3, it plays the first map listed in your playable list (after the first match is over) and will keep playing that map, if your rotation was empty.
So, in UT2k3 you HAVE to put something in your rotation if you wish to play the same map over and over, or else it will start playing maps you never intended.
It's not cool and needs to be changed back to the UT way. |

I'm thalking about having to repedidly load the same map over and over again, but with Assualt you anly load the entire map once then you can play the match repedidly without having to reload it.
