Network problem(need help)

hey all
my network has almost always worked right.. but now when i try to get a file from from PC 2 (i am on PC1 and i want to copy a file from PC2) PC 2 shuts down and starts up again..
if i go from PC 2 to PC1 it all works fine.. and if i use network programs like Radmin (Remote Administrator) it works good to, both ways.
but from PC1 to PC2 trough windows explorer it goes wrong..
i think i did noticed a new screen on startup.. but im not sure, and it goes so fast i cant read it, at top it says something about my drives. A etc.. slave master etc.
and then a table that is to big to read in such a sort time.
and then something like.. somethign with boot disc...

i got no clue if it has to do anythgn with it..
but i would like to see my network working again..

if anyone knows whats wrong?

I'm still thinking of ideas but in the meantime have you tried to see if you can see each computer from the other.

In other words do a search for the other computer from each one. See if they can see each other ok. I doubt that is the problem but I sometimes weird things happen for weird reasons.

To be honest what would really help me is if you told me exactly what you did before this problem occured......did you just install a new piece of software? Change some settings? I haven't heard of a computer suddenly start doing something for no apparent reason. There is always a reason no matter how absurd it may be. The only time I hear of random problems suddenly occuring is in the case of a virus. I would check that your virus software is up to date and then scan.

Either way, if you want in your own time you can search the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB)

Sometimes it is hard to find what you are looking for but I have found a little digging can be really useful.

boot on lan and wake on lan are the same thing and you dont need to have that on.

to get to the firewall settings hit F1 on your keyboard and when the help thingy comes up click on search and type in "firewall" in theory it should come right up and show you how to disable it.

if not i think you have to right click on network neighborhood and go to properties, then right click on your network connection and go to properties then at the top of the window that just poped up go to "firewall" and uncheck the box labled "enable windows firewall" or something like that.

lemmie know when/if you get it and try disabling norton if the above works (enable it right after) I dont think that norton has anything to do with this but i know that the windows built in firewall WILL do something like this (it happened to me when i got my laptop)

ok., wake on lan was disabled.. so thats ok then..

hmm,, weird.. i checked it, and there was nothing that sayed anythig about a firewall. not even a meny aboiu it. i check windows help. and it sayed the same as you, only in dutch. i did it, but at step 2 i got stuck. couse i missed a button.. weird..

ok since i suggested it in the first place do the following

start
control panel
network and internet connections
network connections
ull see 2 or more or less comp pics with a cirucuit pic....
right click on each one and do the following
go to properties when right clicking then go to advanced and make sure u have firewall off for each one

p.s: norton internet security messes up my network but i use it cuz i have cable so...

iv made a screeny, ith all the screens i saw on my way to the properties.. but my webhost is down.. so.. i cant uplaod it.. Rolling Eyes
