Okay this out to make the rest of your week interesting. First of all the rest of the news is going to be running a little late due to a small Real Life In the meantime here is something to tide you over until then. Remember that the following information has some truth it is mostly speculation.
Over the last month there has been rumblings about Epic's next project as we near the release of UT2004. I had heard from some credible Euro sources that there was an Unreal 3 in the works. I tought of it as a cool idea but took the info with a grain of salt as we all know what happened with Unreal 2. Besides I thought that Epic would be spending their time divided between UT2005/6 and Unreal Warfare. However this persistant buzzing is still around and the following screenshots may help clear some things up.As you can see by the polys and the overall 'feel' of the weapon it does indeed look like a future Unreal weapon. Combine that with the fact that this was designed for Epic makes the wheels really start turning about what future game it belongs to.
Will we get an answer to the origins of this weapon? Probably not. Epic has been always pretty tight lipped about future projects. Does this mean they are working on a game besides UT2004 right now? Most definitely. I was looking at the original UT trophy at Epic's studios when I came across an artist working on an alien creature that I hadn't seen in an Unreal game before. However Cliff did ask me to not take a picture of that gentlemen's work and I respectfully did as he asked.
In the end we are no closer to finding out what the future holds but it was cool to see a possible tidbit of it. |

I don't see a unreal 3 in the future. An expansion would more likely happen, which would include retail multiplayer. Unreal 3 just wouldn't sell, imo. |

Hey, I'd buy a copy. Just depends how it was done.
If they went all mystical and Nali. Definitely.
That's an old pic. I've seen it before somewhere.
It'sa a mockup in 3D Max or something. Not Unreal Engine. |

i know, but you ever hear of armor piercing bullets? throw those in there and it's a Anti-tank Sniper rifle, you shoot through the armor killing the pilot and then you take over the tank. that's what they were talking about in the 2k4 video about being hijacked |

I would think that Epic will be doing another Unreal type game in the future but I doubt it'll be Unreal 3. When you get to the point where there is 3 or more games in a series people can start to get bored. But i think Epic should definately do a another single player game because thay make them very well on the whole methinks. |

Yes, because Unreal 1 did really badly didn't it? /sarcasm.
Unreal 2 looked like it was going to completely clean up and wipe competitors such as Doom 3 clean off the board. It turned out to be flawed, but if they could make a third Unreal which could deliver on U2's promises, it'd be a success. U1=Good for its time, UT=Good for its time, UT2003=Good but cavernous room for improvement, U2=Good... while it lasted (which wasn't long). The first two are the most successful of the series, so go figure. If a game's good, people will buy it. (as long as the marketing does its job) |

I would absolutely love Unreal III... Unreal II was a good game, I thought (8/10, IMO), and the XMP is really fun. Unreal III would rock I love SP games! |

I don't think that just because unreal2 failed that it means they won't make another unreal3. Who knows maybe ut2k5/6 might be a full out singleplayer multiplayer combination like u2 was supposed to be (before ut2k3 was ever announced) and like u1 was. |

Did Unreal 2 really "Fail"?
I cant help feeling that it sold fairly well, just from observing various forums. And a a fair percentage of people quite enjoyed it. |
