The idea of a possible Unreal 3 has touched off some debates and I want to go into a little more detail as to why I think Epic should do an Unreal 3. Here is my response to this article on the Atari forums."Yes this is speculation and yes that pic isn't new. However, making an Unreal 3 makes perfect sense. Epic messed up two times (in most people's eyes) with UT2003 and Unreal 2. They are making amends with the MP side of things with UT2004. Why couldn't they go back and do an Unreal 3?

They could implement ideas that didn't make it into 2. They can go back and rethink some old characters while introducing new ones. And the biggest 'Pro' point of all is Co-op. I am very much enjoying Halo but I am very bummed it doesn't have Co-op. The SP screams to have a buddy fighting alongside you. If someone makes a game like Halo SP that has a Co-op feature I would have NO PROBLEM paying $50 for it.

Some of these games being released aren't even worth $20. I bought Halo PC for $39 and that seemed just about right. In the end us gamers have the say it what games are made because we are the bosses in the end."I firmly believe that now more than ever the fans have control over what games are being made. 2004 is going to be a good example of this. There are a lot of kick ass games coming out and not all of them are going to be bought by fans. Times are tough and money is tight so word of mouth is going to make or break games. Halo PC is a good example. All of my close friends are picking this up after seeing what it looks and plays like on my rig (middle of the road system). I tell them if they are excited about this game they will be blown away by next year's games. What are your thoughts on this?

Epic didn't "mess up" with UT2003 and U2: all the Unreal series games are great but flawed. Possibly the Unreal games more than the UT games, but all have their problems.

hell if their not blown away by next years games, theres something wrong with them Razz

and IMO 2k3/U2 were not failures, they were current state builds of existing unreal tech, and they both were excellent games (U2 left something to be desired.....) but there is always room for improvement. personally i think the "humans versus Skaarj" theme has been done too many times, and we need something new, that's why i'm glad the gen mo kai came into 2k3 and hopefully there will be a game in the future, based on the unreal series useing some of the existing characters, like the Nali, and the gen mo kai as primary players Smile

its easy to say this and that about the game but something has to be right since I`m playing 4 hours a day and still manage to have job and a kid... But on the record i am a sci fi fan so .... Very Happy But off course i look forward to UT2004 but im satisfied with unreal unreal 2 and both tournaments For me to buy halflife 2 or doom would be seen upon as a act of blasfemi and thus not done... sorry about my bad english NORWEGIAN POWA!!!!!

It just seems to me that Epic really needs to start out with something fresh. It's okay if they keep it futuristic, but they need to explore a new venue at the least. I'm kinda tired of software companies vomitting up old ideas. Confused Although I like the graphics engine for Doom3... I am not very enthused about the game itself. Sad The could always go down another road altogether such as the fantasy or even do a really sweet death-kar racing game at this point (I know, I'm talking krazy here).
You see some of the engine demo's that Epic has put out in the past and there's some great hand to hand fighting (kung-fu) in some of it. Why not do something that is a little more intimate than a rail-gun shot in the pooper? I myself would love to see Epic do a medieval style fps/tps. Shocked

Att: return to napali.. i loved that shotgun kina rifle aloth
A strange idea i have is: would be cool to have tournament kinda of game with no barriers, kinda roleplay; where you play over nett in scifi citys alla postal with unreal weapons and cars(tanks) that would be a loth of fun .
but I must admitt that i like the onslought idea and assult... I cant actually wait... SO GIVE US TEH DEMO!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Mr. Green

My comments?

Halo PC runs like crap, how'd you get it to look good on a mid-range system? Wink

Efestid,

I am going to put together a tweak guide for Halo out very, very soon. My fingers hurt from playing it for 2 hours tonight.

Lol

Ahh youngin you have much to learn. A cool SP game is like a fine wine or an young female. You need to take all the time in the world and enjoy every drop of it.

indeed.... I remember limiting myself to 1 level of Unreal per day.... and that was the upper limit, sometimes I'd spend so long looking around for secrets I wouldn't even make that....

Enjoy em, otherwise you'll just get bored quicker Wink

Peoii, thank you so much for being the first person ever to provide me with an example of underkill. Razz

But yeah it pays to take things slow. I just don't get these people who rush through games, when Jedi Academy came out people were posting "WTF I B347ED TEH GAME ALREADY HEHOR YUO SUK!" less than a day after they'd got it... how are you meant to enjoy something if it's over so quick??
