Well what can I say but wow.  I just recently found out that Charter Communications, whom I have been using since Sept. 1, has offered a new set of Hi Speed packages. I originally had purchased a 768/128 package for $39 a month.  Now they are offering 2mbit/256 for the same price!  They also have their Xbox package for (784/128) for $29 a month.

It is very, very good to see the ISP know that they can tweak their packages and definitely get more customers because of it.  I mean if you are visiting this site you are both a loyal gamer and a Net freak.  What does this mean if Charter can keep a solid running network?  Customer loyalty and good word of mouth.  How many of you take into account broadband Internet when looking for apartements?  Alot.  Hopefully other ISP's will take notice of Charter's lead.

I'll bet I know why they did this... I just moved from Charter to Adelphia back in July, and at the time, Charter had a 768/128 connection, well, Adelphia just last month upgraded our service from 2mbit/256 to 3mbit/256. For I believe I'm paying.... *checks* $39.99/mo.... course, I'm getting it in a package deal with my cable TV, as most people probably are, but still, great deal.

I just wish they'd start offering the upstream that roadrunner provides. 384 up is a major improvement, and when sharing the connection across 2 gamers, becomes more and more essential.

I always take into account what my internet options are when moving locations, and I've gotta say, both Charter and Adelphia are up there on my list of quality providers.

Adelphia

Charter

Both have "check availability" type links...

Though, I do know for a fact (atleast, from my experience with both) that they both practice the art of port blocking to some extent. Adelphia moreso I believe than Charter, however, both are guilty in some regards.

With Adelphia, I havn't tried hosting a game, however, I have found I have to re-direct my ports to a different external port to host my website locally (a reason I am now looking into offsite hosting for myself and my (soon to be started) business).
