Tycho said he'd do this last week, but with the amount of things he does in RL and for this site, it slipped his mind. So I was checking out the forums and noticed that this hasnt been posted yet so I thought I'd do it.
Dear friends-Many regulars here are regular users of the free services of www.unrealplayground.com You host your maps there and visit our 5 game servers. Because of necessary hardware changes and demands on bandwidth, we've reached a point of financial crisis. Our map downloads use up TERABYTES of bandwidth. We do not want to begin limiting this community resource and, of course, we do not want it to go away. Hundreds of mappers files would go away if the Playground had to shut down or at least dramatically alter our service. As of today, the Playground’s bank account is lean. Too lean, in fact, to pay the bills. We were fortunate, during our last fund drive and since, to receive a number of large annual or one-time gifts. That bought us much needed new equipment and, importantly, bought us time. Come this December 7th we MUST increase the monthly income to Unreal Playground or we will be forced to shut down the game servers. Quite possibly every one of them. We may need to dramatically curb level designer and the public's use of our services. Indeed, the future of UP is at stake. That’s less than one month from now and is a date we certainly do NOT want to live in infamy. Hard news to be sure but there is most certainly a silver lining to this cloud. Not to overstate it, but our regulars have made it clear that the demise of UP would have an IMMENSE impact on the future of the UT gaming community. As stated above, hundreds of mappers store their files at UP. Tens of thousands of individuals download these files every month. We have transferred immeasurable terabytes of data over the years. The end of UP would leave an immense gap in the fabric of the UT community. We are, of course, examining other funding sources, but it starts right here at home, with support from users. PLEASE join Unreal Playground today by setting up a monthly contribution. It is CRITICAL to our future. What can you do? The choice, indeed the future of UP, is UP to you. CLICK HERE for details on how to contribute. Frankly, we need MONTHLY subscriptions the most. $10 a month is a great way to start your giving to UP. THANK YOU!I've already pitched in, because I use their service all the time, and frankly he's right about  the statement: "if UP goes down, then the community will change forever" so many people depend on UP to put their maps out there, and rely on them for good servers to play on. LET"S HELP THEM OUT!
