in essence yes, when you connect to the server and recieve a ping back, that's reliant on how much bandwidth you have. low ping - server's close and or you have lot's a bandwidth. high ping - server far away you have little bandwidth
granted this isnt how it actually happens, but this is the most basic model that it works on. you gotta factor in speed of your telephone/cable lines, amount of people on the server what kinda connection the server has, and so on..... |

have you ever played an internet MP game while your downloading something? you kow the lag that you get when you do that?
that's what will happen to his server. and what will happen to you. |

Though, you also have to think, how busy is your dads website?
If it's a "low profile site" it's not going to be pulling THAT much bandwidth. So if you game on that connection, the website might load a tad slower, but not to awful (websites are typically very small)
*shrug* There could be any number of issues with it. |

My dads website is pretty small but it will get larger will programs like halo and cs drastically slow it down? Our speed is 1.3 Mb per second. |

If you've got that type of pipe, it's pretty doubtful that unless he's got a lot of visitors (by a lot I mean 5000+ pageviews a day) you prolly won't even notice it. |

Are you on a connection that has limits on your bandwidth as far as how much you can download or send in a given month?
Most of the ISP's I've gone thru dont' have caps like this, so in that case, I'd say no. If it's a monthy cap? There's a chance, but in that case, I don't believe you'd be hosting a website off of that, as you'd want to save your bandwidth for more important things.... Like surfing UnrealOps
But anyway, yeah, shouldn't. |

Its a monthly cap but my dad won't tell me how much. But does halo take up a great deal of bandwidth? |

I wouldn't think so... but it is still all relative, dependng on how much "a great deal" amounts to (and how much you play... etc).
It takes more than surfing the web, but less than ripping off music...
It can vary so vastly, one can't give a definate number. It's the end of the month, so the cap is about to refresh anyway? Can you see how much you have used and/or how much is still available? Maybe see if you can have a little end of the month tryout? |
