A lot of you have been inquiring lately about system specs and UT2004. I am going to run some tests on the UO rig with 256, 512 and 1 Gig of RAM and post the results for you later on this week. |

sweet, I've been waiting for someone to do this.
There's so many benches on CPU and Videocards, but never on ram. |

it, in conjunction with the processor and video card, allow you to get high framerates,
basically what the mem does is that it loads the portion of the game you are currently playing in into your memory and allows for extremely fast transition to different portions of anything...
i think... |

Well put Raven! Here's my definitions for what other things do....
CPU - does the actual processing in the game - what happens when you click the mouse? What should be shown when you move the mouse that way? That's the job of your CPU - Central Processing Unit
Graphics card - Draws the actual frames, based on what the CPU tells it. Modern ones, as well has their own memory, have their own processor, so maybe it does some of the job of the CPU, I'm not really up on graphics cards technology.
Together with the RAM, they're the 3 main components in system performance.
Tycho - it would be good if you ran the benchmark on a few different computers with different CPU's/grahics cards, so we can see what the limiting factor is. |

Yeah, the RAM comparison is a good idea. Lay to rest alot of speculation.
The whole CPU vs GPU vs RAM thing is better suited to AnandTech or other heavy duty Hardware Site. |

Always a pleasure to teach noobs!
(A hardware noob that is )
Seriously though, when it comes down to it computers are pretty amazing things, people take them for granted more and more these days but to get from a load of tiny electrical pulses to something like UT2004 is, well, amazing imo... |

Sup guys. I will be leaving work soon. Later on tonight I have to upgrade and test out the new ATI Cat's. This will be a perfect opportunity for me to do some RAM tests as well.
