Here is a news submission from Christian of the Frag Ops Team.
Aging Unreal fans might remember a mod that dropped for UT99 (the original Unreal Tournament) called Tactical Ops. The idea behind it was simple enough: Use the UT engine to create a realistic, tactical shooter. The end result was quite impressive, yielding numerous real-world weapons, maps and character models. For UT fans, it was their Counter-Strike.

At first glance, FragOps seems to take the TacOps road, opting for realistic combat over laser blasts and goop guns. The game features a ridiculous amount of weapons, from Desert Eagles to AK-47's to double barrel shotguns. Hell, they even have two sniper rifles to choose from. And, let me tell you, these are some of the best weapon models I've seen. I'm not talking about best for a mod. I mean best anywhere. Gun aficionados will undoubtedly be pleased with the developer's attention to detail, as MP5s and Benelli shotguns are recreated with startling accuracy.

Gameplay-wise, CS fans will feel right at home with modes like Bomb the Base, and a "Buy" system which starts each round with a few seconds of purchase time (so that everyone can choose their preferred load-out). Kills and completed objectives yield more cash with which to buy weapons, ammo, armor and weapons upgrades. See, unlike CS, FragOps features an ingenious weapons upgrade system which allows you to purchase attachments for your weapons. This might include a laser target for your sniper rifle or a silencer for your P90. You can even throw a scope on your Desert Eagle to make it even more deadly. Even better, all the upgrades are modeled as attachments to your weapons, and look just as good as the weapons themselves.

The final major wow factor of FragOps is in its maps, which are quite stellar. One has the counter-terrorists storming a frozen laboratory, complete with blasting winds and electronic security. Another map has one team scrambling from one end of a series of ruins to the other, placing the opposition smack dab in the middle to stop them. Nothing like whipping around an ancient statue and blasting a terrorist's head clean off with a double-barreled shotgun, let me tell you.

If you're looking for modern warfare gameplay as a change of pace from UT2004's sci fi fare, FragOps is going to be your best bet. The developers are currently hard at work porting the game over to UT2004, so expect to be playing this one within the next week or two.
Sounds good. Let's hope they do indeed deliver what they promise!

Only problem with frag.ops is IMHO that compared to TO it's nowhere as fun as TO used to be (lately TO isn't also as much fun as it used to be because of a lot of lamers (the same as when TO started, people came over from CS because of a lot of lamers).

But Frag.Ops most definitly looks great and the FO team did a hell of a job, and a lot of people will have fun with it, as long as you don't compare it to TO.

Actually I think it is the community of old that made TO so fun... I don't think it was the game really.. Back in 1.6 I enjoyed playing with a specific group of guys which made time fly.

It's just too bad that now I only have that experience with DC/BF:V Wink I actually still play TO, but I'm scheduled for retirement this Sunday after our final Cup Match CB4:TO 2000-2004 R.I.P. Laughing
