Well two things. Firstly you guys definitely want CBP One to be converted to UT2004. Secondly the guys at CBP are going to do it. Since the poll was so lopsided I will put up the one I was going to do for next week. With the success of UT2004 does Epic really need to make '05? Would you rather have them put the time and energy into a whole new game? Or do you want them to upgrade '04? |

If they can find new ways to impress with us with gameplay. But Id say working on new patches and content is the best way to go because it is quite an undertaking on the part of the modders who work on their mods along time. |

IMHO, it'd be the death of the series.
There are already enough people complaining they wasted their money on UT2k3, so it'd just be another case of that.
I'd love to see them give away some bonus packs, but work on a new title that would better showcase their engine. Perhaps something with a little more depth than just a online FPS? Take for instance Tribes: Vengeance, huge story line, and an indepth first person experience. Now that's something that could really be great for Epic as far as promoting the series. Or heck, spawn into something else, but I think UT needs atleast a year off.
My $0.02USD. |

yeah, one major sign of a good game is its longevity, and also one of its selling points.
No game would have a chance to go beyond one year, if it gets trumped by its own successor a year after it was released.
UT2004 was a good idea, because so many UT fans were in shock by the change to 2k3.
It felt like Epic cared about the fans when they released it, and gave us something to really get into.
That's it.
There should be no reason to do a 2k5 unless its a giant leap from 2k4.
Otherwise, you would be cashing in on the whole "its shiny and new, and has the Unreal name" idea.
(that's not innovative, or valuable, and will end up giving Epic/Unreal a bad name)
[Edit]
even if 2k5 would be a giant leap from UT2k4, i don't think it should be released/made.... it would scare people away... "too expensive to be an UT series fan, etc.."
honestly, if they make a new UT every year, i would question how much effort they really put into each title. |

Well you guys pretty much summed up my thoughts on the whole thing.
Unless, they really have some great new content to add to the UT world I'm not so sure creating a new one would be the greatest of ideas right now.
As it is there is so much variety I sometimes worry too much variety may lead to many players spread too thin.
That's not to say they can't release a new UT title. However, if they do, they should probably switch gears and strive for something different. I would like it, though, if they kept patching and tweaking UT2k4.
Cheers. |

Perhaps they should release a good SP game (no, not another U2: The Awakening)...
That would be great! |

If a 2k5 were an option, I say it shouldnt be made as a game, instead like a supplemental bonus pack with new maps and stuff that can be downloaded |

If spending € 40-50 each year for a single game were an issue I wouldn't be playing games in the first place.
Especially when I buy at least half a dozen games on average each year anyway ...
So : UT2005 ?
Hell yes ... provided you make it an upgrade like UT'04 was.
Anything less and I hope they make it a budget-release for everyone instead of this US-only rebate nonsense they had.
Developers cost money ... Good developers cost even more ...
So it's only fair we ought to give them something for their efford to keep our favourite game up to date.
Even a single year worth of playing this game is more value for my money than some of the other games I've bought in the past.
Besides : it's not like they are forcing us to upgrade ...
It is still within our reach to just say no to a minor upgrade.
That's not to say I'd rather see something completely original and unrelated to the Unreal-universe as their primary game for this engine. |

Enough Tournaments.
Time for Epic to make a game with a bit more meat to it.
As cool as UT2004 is, it's already wearing off me. It's lightweight fun. |

I think UT2004 is the definitive arena FPS title, so therefore any other retail UT200x games need to be expansion packs rather than an entirely new package like UT2004 is. I'd love to see a single-player expansion pack, something that's based in some of the UT backstory... the early underground years of the Tournament, the Skaarj Wars or the struggle against Necris terrorism, for example. |

we need a story about the origins and background of the tournaments. anyone read chapter alpha? they have wicked ass ideas for the unreal series, have epic get with those guys and have them create a unique storyline for the background of liandri corp, and the reasons that liandri started the tourneys |

nah, no 2005. but a nice big patch would be nice.
if you update it every year, it gets boring, so a nice patch with some stuff is good enough. like in UT2k3, when we got the 3 new gamemodes, LMS, invasion, mutant. |

I already think that they screwed us with ut2004 (which is nothing more than ut2k3 with some bonus gametype).. The engine itself hasn't really changed that much (ut2k4 doesn't look any better than ut2k3 did)..
So unless they really change the graphics part and better gameplay then I would propably say ok to ut2k5, but if it's just as much difference as ut2k3 and ut2k4 then HELL NO).. |

The only possible "better gameplay" is the removal of the grenade launcher and the balancing of the flak secondary and avril. As for graphics, you're one shallow guy if that's what matters to you.
Gameplay>eye candy. UT2004=worth its asking price. |

I say make a new game, but keep with the sports title. Have it be Unreal Tournament 2006. (that'll probably be the date when it is released)
But before they jump into a new one, don't you think they should make some bonus packs like they did with 99? They had tons of bonus packs. I'm not talking about stupid maps either. Sure maps are cool, but release more models! Brand new models, not skins. And incorporate it into the patch, so one with the new patches have to have the models; thus incorporating it into online games.
I'm done |
