Oooh... now, I have to admit - I'm a lover of Nvidia. I have been ever since 3dFX went under. Ah, how I miss my Voodoo5... anyway, after announcing the GeForce 6800, Nvidia has released the stats on their new workstation graphics card, the Quadro FX 4000. w00t! For all you nerds who have sweet dreams about these sorta things...

# Rotated-grid full-scene antialiasing significantly increases the visual quality of lines and edges on 3D models without compromising performance
# Innovative high-precision dynamic range technology sets new standards for imaging through extended 32-bit floating point capabilities in shading, filtering, texturing, and blending for unprecedented rendered image quality in visual effects processing such as motion blur and explosions
# World's fastest 256-bit GDDR3 memory interface and the industry's highest memory bandwidth (32GB/sec.) for extremely fast data throughput.
# Two dual-link DVI-I connectors, an industry first, drive multiple very high-resolution displays at up to 3840 x 2400 resolution rates, satisfying demanding medical, satellite, and geospatial imaging application requirements. |
Man... I'm wondering what would happen if I ran UT2004 on that... Any ideas? |

Keep in mind that the best workstation cards are very expensive. underline very.
I'm not sure they perform exactly the same either. Seems to me I read a story a while back about how CAD cards generally need more power in certain are than gamers cards. I think the difference was in calculations and textures, but not sure now.
Anyway, there was a time while back when you could buy a GF256 and with slight tweaks make a CAD card out of it for like 1/3 the price of a CAD card. Still, the guts were not exactly the same, but the driver would accept it as the CAD card. |
