Good evening Smile
After 3 months of not playing the Game, I tried and Nothing... game froze. Finally I reinstalled it and tried again: same.
I doesn't send any data thru modem (ISDN), which works quite normally.
On internet I found some advices, talking about editing .ini file to see more than 3 or 4 servers. I did it also, but I cannot see any server at all.
I have WinXP Pro SP1, and plenty other updates.; NAV, Tauscan, ZoneAlarm (Acces to internet allowed), Agent Forte, The Bat....
Any sugestions? Any ideas what to try next? Please help.

try turning off zonealarm all together...

see if that works...

if that doesnt work, try turning off the default windows firewall...

-right click on "my network places" go to "properties"
-right click on your net connection (probably network adaptor) and select properties
-go to advanced, and uncheck "use default windows firewall"

thats it...

you might wanna restart your pc after youve done that..

one more thing you can do is make sure that your router (if you have one) isnt blocking that port for UT... theres some really good articles on opening UT ports on unrealwiki (http://wiki.beyondunreal.com)

Before I read Your advice, I cane across "All-seeing Eye" and I installed trial version.
When I start it first, and then UT, it works fine and finds hundreds of servers.
Without all-seeing eye is still trhe same.
Tonight will try to uninstall EYE and turn off ZA. Maybe it'llwork...

thanks

I'm a little paranoid, and use ZoneAlarm for more than 2 years...
Maybe I could try some other firewall... any suggestions?

Personally, I'm a ZA Pro user. I love it to death... I've installed Norton's firewall software before, and it's always been too dumbed down and idiot-proof to really give any control to the power user. Plus, you can't really go in and tweak stuff with it like you can with ZA. Maybe it's just me, but ZA Pro is the way to go.
Cheaper, too, and free if you know how Wink

there is a way to allow UT to go through ZA...

if you have PRO like me...

open up the controll center, click program controll, then on the middle right there should be a tab marked "programs" click that and scroll through till you find UnrealTournament.exe or a listing for Unreal Tournament.

click on the red "X" or the question mark "?" that is listed next to UT and set both the "Access internet", and "Access safe zone" colums to green checks, then do the same for the server column if you host games... UT should never send e-mail so you dont have to worry about that column....

that should fix ya Smile

Or avoid this all together, and use a hardware firewall Razz Not only is it easier, but more efficient in protecting your computer Wink

Also more expensive. I'm assuming that if he was using ZoneAlarm in the first place, it was because it's a cheap and good alternative.
A substitute good in a market with few firms in long run monopolistic competitve equilibrium, for those of you who are taking economics (finished last exam today!)
Anyway, yes, they are better, but ZoneAlarm Pro is hella cheaper than a router.

"hella cheaper than a router"??

ZoneLabs.com has ZoneAlarm Pro on sale right now for $40USD, regularly $50USD. And you have to rebuy it each year to keep it up to date. (Which happens quite frequently on well supported software)

NewEgg.com has the Linksys BEFSR41 router with NAT firewall abilities for $60USD and you never have to pay to upgrade it. Wink Or if you want another option that's not NAT powered as much, they've got the BEFSX41 router for $68USD. Again, not that much, and you never have to pay to upgrade it unless you're upgrading to a network style that's not supported (IE: Gigabit)

For the extra $10USD -> $20USD (depending on if you catch the sale, and which items you're comparing), I think I'd still go with the router option.

Unless of course we're talking about the free version of ZA, in which case of course you can't beat that cost, but you did mention pro, so I'm just going gun for gun Smile

I'm not saying that software firewalls are a bad idea, I'm just saying that if we're going to pit one against the other, we should do so with facts, not misconceptions.

If you read my above post, I simply said it was cheaper, and also free, if you knew how, with a wink.
I got it for free.
Wink.

See, you don't have an option of getting a router for free, but ZAP, you can get that for free.
So, yeah.
