I don't really know if this quite counts as mod news, but seeing as we don't have a "map release" section yet, this will have to do.
There's two new AWESOME maps out now - neither of them official, but both by people involved with the retail version of UT04 - and they're both truly teh 0wn.
First map is DM-Forbidden, a sweet deathmatch map on a flying ship (which actually flies around the level - it's awesome to see ingame) and comes to us care of David Spalinski and Warbeast. I downloaded this one yesterday, and gave it a few trial runs... even though I don't have a fancy logo, I give it my stamp of approval. My only issue is that I tend to fall into the small holes in the ship a lot - but that's more me being used to indoor maps than a map design problem. Regardless, you can find DM-Forbidden at this thread in the Atari forums.
Next up is AS-Confexia. Now, this one comes courtesy of StreamlineStudios. For those of you unfamiliar with that name, SLS is the wonderful company that designed ONS-Torlan and the single-player game introduction. Continuing along those lines, they've released Confexia, which, according to Stefan 'Bentusi' Baier is:
Quote: |
AS-Confexia is a large scale Assault mission for UT2004 with extensive use of ground and flying vehicles. The mission is to attack a large and well defended fortress located in an urban wasteland. One round usually lasts around 35 minutes. |
Anyway, I gave this one a test run today, and it brought my PC to it's knees. I am going to be getting a new one in about two - three months (once PCI-Express reaches it's full potential) and I'm sure it'll run it like hot butter over pancakes.
Till then, I recommend that for people with low end systems only get this map for the eye candy, medium range people get it for botplay and turn down their settings... and high end users? Screw you, my new PC will blow all of you away.
As for the map itself, it's actually very fun, and I didn't even have time to go through the whole thing... but, it's worth a look over here in the Atari forums. Well, that's all for now. I'll have another neat update for everyone later today. |

You sure about that?
Retail and CBP are two different things btw. |

Yes, actually. Mr. Spaliniski is a map designer for Epic, and if you read the post, StreamLine also did retail work for UT04.
