A recent article in CNN Money states that game prices may be going up in the near future. Through the implementation of “collector’s editions” publishers have been testing the waters for a price hike. I wondered why my copy of Doom 3 was $54.99 instead of 49.99 and now I know. This also explains why Half Life 2’s collector’s edition will be $79.99. Activision has already announced that they will be increasing their whole sale prices.

To date, Activision (ATVI: Research, Estimates) has given the clearest signal of impending price increases. Speaking at a Bank of America Securities investment conference last week, chairman and CEO Robert Kotick said Activision would raise wholesale prices on all titles released for next generation systems by $3 to $5. |
Well, looks like I will have to get a second job just to afford my habit. You can view the full article here. |

oh dear, I already think 50 bucks is a lot of money for a game, I'll never gonna pay more.. So or I'll just wait until the price has dropped, or I'll just resort to something I don't like doing.. warez... |

€ 60 for D3 which doesn't last 10-20 hours is insane ...
€ 60 for a game like Sims 2, Rome:Total War, etc. is 'cheap'.
I guess the new 'copy-protection'-schemes they're using are getting expensive and someone's got to pay, which unfortunately is going to be the legit customers.
hmmpf ... consoles are starting to look even more inviting now.
Heck, if it weren't for the few games that are impossible (or needlessly difficult) for consoles (RTS, sims, fps's) I wouldn't have a pc for games anymore.
Add in 'copy'-protection, annoying crashes, driver-problems and it's safe to say ... someone out there desperately wants to kill the pc-games market.
And it's not the warez-idiots. |
