Two recent announcements about Duke Nukem: Forever has renewed my interest in this title. The first announcement is that 3D Realms has selected an upstart physics engine known as Meqon to govern DNF's physics. TotalVideoGames conducted an interview with Meqon about there physics engine and DNF. They give examples of how 3D Realms could use their physics engine in DNF. Such as barricading doorways with crates and having explosions break/damage objects near by. They also touch on environmental physics such as curtains flapping in the wind and twirling smoke affected by moving objects.

Other highlights of this interview consist of; directly comparing Meqon to Havok, that 25 developers are using there physics engine, and why Meqon’s engine was selected by 3D Realms.

One final piece of information provides a lose system requirement for DNF. It seems that the game will not be able to run on a Geforce 3. George Broussard of 3D Realms posted a reply to a question posted on the official 3D Realms forums.

REALLY dumb qustion but a relivent one:
Does DNF use pixil shaders, and if so, hard core or mildly?

Hardcore.

This is relivent for us pre GeForce3 users.

I don't think the game is going to run on a GF3

Well, it sounds like when DNF is released it will be somewhat graphically advanced and not available on current consoles. Eh, no big problem for me I have a 9800 pro and by the time Forever is released I will probably have upgraded again. For additional information visit TotalVideoGames here and the George Broussard's post can be found here.
