We just received a press release from Brooke at Xfire about some new changes to their program.

Menlo Park, CA – October 8, 2004 – Xfire, Inc. today announced that its free service, Xfire™, now supports cross-game chat and file download service. For the very first time gamers will be able to send and receive messages with their Xfire friends while playing in many of more than 200 online PC games. Gamers will be able to message their friends who are not playing online or who are playing a completely different online game. Xfire’s revolutionary technology overlays an Xfire chat window within any game providing an unparalleled ability to find and chat with gaming friends.

In addition, Xfire is launching an innovative download service which will deliver patches, mods, demos, trailers and other files to users via a closed peer to peer distribution system. The technology automatically transmits files in the background using otherwise unused bandwidth.

Xfire has been in its beta release since it launched in January of this year. With these new features, Xfire has now reached its 1.0 release.

“These new Xfire features yet again extend the social connections between gamers and their friends,” said Mike Cassidy, CEO of Xfire, Inc., “Xfire is all about making gaming simpler and more fun. Cross-game chat helps bring gamer friends closer and closer.”

The cross-game chat and file download service join a continually growing list of Xfire features, including server browser functionality and automatically tracking when and where gamers’ friends are playing PC games online. With one click, gamers can instantly join their friends’ games or play with friends of friends. Xfire also lets gamers instantly message their friends who are in-game without crashing their game.

To download Xfire for free, please visit X-Fire. Xfire is supported by advertisers trying to reach the 18-34 audience.
Make sure you stop by the forums and give us feedback on this little proggie.
