Like Cliffy B, I am very excited about the newest Resident Evil title. If Resident Evil 4 wasn't going to be released I would have sold my Gamecube long ago. But don't worry if you are not a fan of the other titles this game may be for you. RE 4 seems like a new breed of "survival horror". In this Gamespy preview the game seems to have changed quite a bit.
The game creators have incorporated RPG like qualities into RE 4. Such as, allowing local merchants to upgrade your weapons. Using new yellow herbs, combined with green, to extend your health bar. As well as a monitory system that limits your weapons and upgrades.

When interfacing with a merchant, Leon can opt to sell, buy, or tune up weapons. The tune function is awesome and lets you pay cash to increase the reload speed, capacity, or even accuracy of each and every gun, shotgun, and rocket launcher that you acquire. Other cool purchased include more inventory space and a treasure map which shows all of the secret locations of valuable items in the game (some are even hidden in piles of leaves on top of roofs). All in all, the strategic element that the merchants bring the game is a much welcomed feature, indeed. You'll need a stellar amount of money to buy up every single upgrade, so choose carefully. |
The days of killing mindless zombies may also be over. Capcom has replaced the zombies with cult like villagers wielding weapons. Expect lots of pitch forks and chainsaws. New weapons Leon, RE 4's protagonist, can wield include a bolt actions rifle and a rocket launcher. I can't wait to try this on out! For more information visit Gamespy. |
