Well in keeping with the Unreal Universe theme today I thought we would have a similar Speak Up Topic.  It is so hard to think about how the UU is a little over 5 years old now.  So many things have changed and yet some have stayed the same.  What was your first Unreal game experience?

UT... very much like others. my friend bought the GOTY CD on some sale and really liked it, I started checking it out (only because it didn't need the CD to play, maybe I would never be here otherwise) and loved it and the rest is history

Unreal 1, UT, UT2003, U2 and probably UT2004. The best so far is and probably allways will be UT the original.

I got UT free with my Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 X-Gamer, then went and bought Unreal Gold. I got UT2003 on the day it came out (good ol' EB pre-order, which netted me a cool poster too Very Happy ). I did the same with Unreal 2 (although no poster there Sad ). I suspect I'll be doing the same with UT2004 (here's hoping for another poster Very Happy )...

i was brought into the UU during my freshman year, my first day in Yearbook class some of the other guys were playing a game and i wondered what it was, and how to play it. it turned out to be the Demo for UT. we all stared to play every day and i got to be so good that they wouldent play w/me anymore. so i finally found a copy of Unreal Gold at the local computer store, and i bought it, and started playing it, my vid card only supported 256 colors at the time and i had to put up w/the worst colors in the world, finally i updated my drivers and played it in the stunning color that it's supposto be played in: 32 bit. at that point in time i was hooked. my parents being cheap as they were wouldent get a high speed connection so i could play online so i was left to playing by myself. i was thouroughly whipped by the masterful bots on UT once i got it. and i decided to practice more. that's about when i heard of this site and started visiting it. i started anticipating the day that 2k3 came out, and the day after it cam out i bought it. same thing for U2. and i from the time i got those two i have been interested in map desgn but i cant figure out how to do it. a few months later i was offered the chance to work here and the rest is history.

After much hype, I bought Unreal about a week after it was released.
It blew my mind. I was in gaming heaven. The atmosphere and seclusion, the HUGE levels, the weapons, the enemies, all just made me say "This is the game I have been waiting for"

Of course UT was a no brainer after that. I will always give any Unreal game a chance after those two, and UT2k3 is my current game of choice.

I bought Unreal2 and was slightly dissapointed, but its still good. I await the almighty XMP addon....

My first experience with Unreal I was a stunning one. I remember reading about the development of it in various gaming magazines. I couldn't believe how awesome it looked. When it finally arrived in stores a friend of mine picked it up. We played it on his Pentium II, 128 meg, Toshiba laptop. I didn't own a computer at the time, so PC gaming was new to me. I was a console gamer. Once I experienced Unreal...I was just amazed. The sounds, the graphics...the environments. I mean, everything about it took me by storm and made me realize how cool PC gaming could be. I remember reading the tag line for the game "It's called Unreal because it is." And without a doubt, it was. And it would become much more too...

Fast forward a bit and then when have Unreal Tournament. This game, hands down, changed me as a gamer. Still computerless at the time, I had no idea what I was in for when a friend showed me this "new" game. I thought...my god. Then he showed be that you could play it online and talk to other people. I was like...are you kidding?! You mean against other people from around the country and stuff?! He was like..yeah! I was laughing and shaking my head in amazement. This, I thought, was "unreal" After being sucked into Unreal Tournament, this made me want to get my own computer. My friend told me, "If you build one, buy the components yourself. It will be cheaper, and you will have a better computer than a store-bought one."

I started to order my computer parts little by little. Once it was complete, the first game loaded onto it was Unreal Tournament. I played it everyday. Because of my experience with the Unreal series, it has really changed me as a gamer in so many ways. I learned to build computers, I learned to keep tabs on current technologies that may/would have an impact on my gaming experience. Since that time, I continue to follow up on things like this and have built another computer to keep up with today's games.

I've learned and experienced a lot because of a video game. Not to mention, made friends all around the world.

Thank you Epic, Digital Extremes, Legend, and anobody else that helped to bring the Unreal Universe alive. And to all the fan sites that are dedicated to the Unreal series and keep us all informed.

I can't wait to see what the future holds.

I was one of those anymore rare cases of people who were actually waiting for Unreal to hit the shelves. Working at a Wal-Mart (god i hated those days) at the time, I picked it up as soon as we got a copy in the door, went home, and it became my obsession. I'd sit around for literally whole days playing it, until I finally beat it on the Unreal difficulty. Even then, it still offered me a great way to let go of the stress. Then I moved to college, and found that not only was it a worthwhile game for our college network, but I was able to startup prolly one of the only servers that wasn't offering Quake2 at the time. And indeed, my server filled up most nights. Hours upon hours of gaming continued with our Sniper rifles blaring at one another until finally I was reading around, and this thing called "Unreal Tournament" had come out in demo just that day. Baffled, I proceeded to download, and a new addiction began. Though we still to this day fire up an Unreal server for the fun of it at most LAN parties, I'm very happy to see where the engine has been going and where it appears to be going. Makes me happy to be a part of this community though.

Oh Unreal 1. Bought it and a Voodoo 2 at thew same time.

I actually like Unreal's Deathmatch better than UT. A bit slower and "gentlemanly". Hey, I've got crap reflexes.
