Once... just ONCE, I'd like Microsoft to stabilize their product, standardize their product, and not HAVE to have massive amounts of patches and service packs.... maybe if they took the time to do that, stuff like this would sound more interesting.... but I just look at it as another way for Windows to crash at this point.
Oh yeah, and it's also really nice of them to break emulation compatibility jerks. For the longest time, it was the same basic idea for emulation of windows in other operating systems. Heck, look at Wine, it's been doing it for ages, and now all the sudden that work is going to be rather useless on any program using the new "avalon" set. (Though granted, on a couple of the mailing lists I'm on, they are working on an open source Avalon set that would allow for Linux and Mac users to gain access to this toolkit).
Eh, maybe it's just the "windows isn't the be-all-end-all" person in me, but while the demo is flashy and probably will be quite popular, from a programmer standpoint, I'm not all that pleased. |
