Well after working 13 hours today I come home to some cool information. LucasArts has released a playable demo of their upcoming game, Star Wars: Republic Commando. A list of mirrors can be found here. I am off to download it and try it myself. Let me know what you think!

Let's see how much worse/better this one is compared to the Xbox-version.

It has some bugs (one session I completely lost my weapons) and the AI isn't all that great. But I still really enjoyed myself and plan on purchasing the final product.

Man ... this mission is different and definitely tougher than the Xbox-demo.
First impression again was that it was just as linear as the Xbox-variant.

'using' the various crew-members was more difficult as the 'hotspots' were smaller or easier to miss compared to the xbox-demo where pointing in the generic direction was enough.

Did it seem like you were a little too detached and sluggish-moving to anyone else here? And jeez how long does it take to plant a friggin' explosive... Not too impressed really.

Placing explosives is not supposed to be as easy as MoH:AA & co make it appear.

Besides ... you can either do it yourself or order one of your teammates to do it. Because if I understand this game there's almost always going to be a few enemies to occupy the of the squad in these situations.

As for 'sluggish' movement. I'd say that's probably because you haven't played a fps with normal human walkingspeed in years.

Meh, I still think you spend far too long tapping buttons on your det pack. This tech is supposed to be more advanced than what we have and I assure you that it doesn't take 10 seconds of tapping to arm a remote charge now, so why then?

As for sluggish movement, I'd say that it just boils down to something that needs tweaking because I've played many an FPS over the years, and these "fast, deadly commandos" felt anything but.

nope, I doubt you can set a detonator in that time no matter what technology they're using.

And if you're still skeptical the other reason is that it is for gameplay.
If it didn't last 10 seconds or whatever there'd be no reason to defend the guy either.

Heck ... I'm sure you could do the entire mission on your own if these kinds of objectives weren't included, but as they are you really need your teammates to defend the one trying to set the detonator/slice the console.

I guess we'll just have to disagree here. To me the fact that it takes 10 seconds to do everything is odd and comes off seemingly as an attempt to artificially create the style of play you point out after the fact. To each his own though.
