2005 has already been a good year for games for me. The brilliance of one game has captivated like no other. So what game is worth crowing GOTY 2 months into the year? Simple Resident Evil 4.
I am currently 7 hours into RE4 and I am easily having as much if not more fun than previous single player titles such as Halo 2 & Half-Life 2. Now, I do have to admit I am biased. I completed Resident Evil six times, and finished all other series titles except RE Zero. I dig scary games and I feel right at home with digital zombies. But Resident Evil 4 surpassed any of my expectations.
Unlike the previous Resident Evil this game evolves in a direction that mainstream and hardcore alike will enjoy. There is a lot more action, simple RPG leveling system, Shenmue type action sequences, advanced console AI, a Metroid Prime like easy to use map, and much much more. If you enjoyed Doom 3, The Silent Hill series, The Suffering, Painkiller, or every other horror themed game, and own a Gamecube, check out Resident Evil 4. Other platform owners will just have to wait. |
