Found out about this one a couple of days late. Oh well news is news right?
Cliffy B gets interviewed by Gamespy about the upcoming UT2004 game, the new gametypes, and about other "minor" things, along with a few new screenies, this one is of a turret in action.
Lets face it, all we really want to hear about is UT2004 right? oh yah, and Cliffy does say that there is a rebate plan being worked on for 2k3 owners. ME LIKES!
GameSpy: Last year, you mentioned that UT would not become an upgrade treadmill like most sports titles, yet here we are with UT 2004 shipping in around two months. Will this be a full-price product? Will there be an upgrade path for owners of UT 2003, or perhaps, a downloadable upgrade for a reasonable price?
Cliffy B: Final price point has yet to be determined, but I can say with confidence that a rebate plan is being worked on as we speak for those who purchased UT 2003. Read the full interview |

Epic can kiss my ass if they think I am paying regular price 2k4 and submitting shit to get a rebate. If it basically an addon for 2k3 then price it accordingly. If they want new buyers then make two versions....one for new customers and one for those who have already spent their money on 2k3.
How many more idiotic ideas can EPIC come up with before they actually get a clue? |

Lets see... they could start by hiring you.
Seriously people, companies exist for one reason, TO MAKE MONEY! Otherwise, they'd just do opensource and make it free to the world. But they don't now do they? Nope. From the reviews I've read, there will be plenty of new features and extensions to justify my expense. Wheather or not you can justify it? well, that's up to you now isn't it? Just don't go off ragging on them for making a game and charging for it, it's what their there for, and it's what keeps the unreal community going on. (Yes, new "stuff" means new toys for community developers, and that means more gameplay for all of us! WIN WIN) |

I have high expectations when it comes to service....occupational hazard when you work in the service industry. I expect people who want my money to work hard to get it (being as I have to work hard to earn it). Epic as a company has dropped the ball horribly in how they handled 2k3 and its subsequent release. (Very buggy product, length of time to get patches released, quality of patches, Stats and the list can go on and on)
A rebate program to entice me to buy something (which basically amounts to an addon for an existing game I already own) does not in my opinion qualify as working hard to earn my money.
EA/Dice (Battlefield 1942) on the other hand seem to have it all figured out. Timely patches to fix bugs, timely free content and addons (Road to Rome and soon to be released Secret Weapons) that are appropriately priced lead to more sales and fan loyalty. Epic could learn a thing or two from this approach.
Angel: Yeah I am lazy with respect to rebates, at least these type of rebate plan schemes. |

humm... I've never heard anything about UT2k3 being buggy and I don't think the patches are much slower then BF. timely free addons? wtf are you talking about? they are having so many new addons that don't bring much new stuff that I've heard of and fcol... SECRET WEAPONS? the fuck with that you can keep your anger elsewhere and just send them E-mail or sum |

Care to point out exactly where UT2k3 is so "buggy"?
With the last patch (which btw, the patches were released in a reasonable timeline given the q/a testing that all software companies do, or should do), the game has become very stable and very playable. There are only a couple minor issues I've even heard about, though if you've got a list of other things, by all means, I invite you to mention them.
And since you mention EA games, I'd like to mention my "service" issue with them. They not only screwed me on support for one of my purchases (Heroes of Might and Magic IV), but they flat out told me "if you want the updates, go buy the addon packs". BUY THEM? WHAT? It's not as though I was asking for any new features, hell, the game is overwhelming enough as is, but to be told to go BUY an addon pack just to fix a bug? I dunno about you, but I've never heard Epic say anything remotely close to that.
Dice on the other hand might be a different story, I honestly admit I don't know, never played BF1942 much, so I've never really had to deal with them.
So please, if you would, mention these bugs you've got with UT2k3, perhaps there is someone here who can be of assistance. |

People are talking like 2K4 is some little mission pack... a few new levels & characters.
Sheesh. For a mission pack, it's HUGE.
Enough content for a full game easily. |

Apparently some of you (not all) are looking for flames...sorry not interested.
As a consumer, I was putting my opinion out there. Some of you responded in kind with opinion, other must have thought I was trolling. As an ex-UO staffer I don't make a habit of trolling forums.
Yes the game off the shelf when released was buggy...falling through floors, disappearing trans, not dying when falling into oblivion and let's not forget the netcode. (Sure, it has been reported that EPIC did not change the netcode but really no way to prove or disprove)
2K4 is a mission pack in that all it does is introduce some new content, the basic game remains the same. A few new weapons, characters and the addition of vehicles does not make it a new game....it just modifies the original.
I still play 2k3 when I have time so don't take this the wrong way....I do like the game as it stands now. I just won't pay "new game" price for something that is basically nothing more than an expansion pack. (My loss I guess)
Here is another discussion completely though....
Did EPIC make a mistake in branding 2k3 as Unreal Tournament. The game for oldskool UT players did not live up to its predecessor but it did bring in new fans. Should EPIC have considered a different title or perhaps a slight change to the title of the game? |
