Okay I am looking for help on this one.  I just got a All In Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro this weekend and I installed it yesterday.  So far I must say I am not impressed with this card.  I am getting lock ups on my screensavers (MS Plus! Fish) and the performance in UT2003 wasn't a big leap at all (4fps gain).  What I want to know from those of you with ATI cards is: What is the best driver?  What is the best overclock speed?  Unless this puppy starts doing better I may have to sell it.

Tycho, sorta similar thing with me (not the lockups, but the ut2003 performance)... I found a severe killer was the world detail level. From normal > high/highest i lose 35 fps. Try lowering just that and see how it performs.

doesn't the 9600 outperform the 9700?

Hey you using the Catalyst 3.6 drivers Tycho? I have an original Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO and the catalysts get better and better every release (which is becoming rather often)

i've heard that the latest catalyst drivers are pretty crappy. and i have my graphics at the medium setting, last night i changed it to the higher setting, and i havent noticed a FPS drop yet.

i have a Radeon 9000 pro 128

Maby it was a bad line of cards.... if you do sell it lemmie know for how much. i've been looking for a AIW.

I swear by the omega/catalyst drivers

I have an ati radeon mobility 7500 32mb card..and when i switch from ati drivers to the omega/catalyst drivers, my fps went from 20 to 100 Shocked Very Happy

I even get around 50 average on the bridge on lostfaith. sweet for a 32mb mobilty card Smile

so, definitely try out the catalyst drivers.

If you are talking to me, ill explain

The ATI Radeon 9500 pro is almost identical to the Radeon 9700 Pro, because of its good performance it is impossible to get now because ATI took it out of production and made the 9600 Pro in its place.

the 9500 pro is a exceptionally good performing card for its price.

I went from a Ti 4200 to a 9700 Pro. I was very impressed with my UT2003 performance, especially how it performed with AF and AA.

I use the drivers that came in the box with the card. I'll change them when I hear compelling evidence to upgrade. Wink

One thing about switching from NVIDIA to ATI products, Tycho, is that you HAVE to absolutely eliminate every reference to the NVIDIA drivers on your machine. I never had problems upgrading from card to card in the past, but when I bought the ATI I took what turns out to be good advice and did a clean install.

Hope that helps. It's a terrific card. Did you say what card you upgraded from?

yeah, if you get a new ATi, delete all NVIDIA stuff on your system

then get a detonator destroyer from www.guru3d.com

and then install the new card

or just format and start from there, but Ati's suck if nvidia junk is still on there

thats why im saving my money to buy a new HD and a 9800pro at the same time. its just easier that way Very Happy

Clean install ? Do you mean reinstall windows ? ( I´m probably putting a ATI card in my comp soon )

I did, but I'd imagine if you were vigilant enough to hunt down any NVIDIA references you'd be okay. I've never had to use the detonator destroyers, so I don't know how well they work.

I just really wanted to start with a fresh install. I keep a backup of my important stuff, drivers, and patches, so it was no big deal.

i went from a gf2 mx 440 64mb to a ATI Radeom 9000 pro 128mb and i diddnt remove any drivers or remove any registry stuff. i actully removed my ATI and put my gf2 back in for a while and then switched back, not updating drivers or anything, just updating the bios from a 2x agp to a 4x agp setting, and nothing bad ever happened figure that one out :/
