It's a dog eat cat world out there, and the Cat Mother just got eaten. What does this mean? It means that the Finnish gaming company Cat Mother has officially closed its doors. Were they known for anything major in the community? Nope, I don't even think they released a single title (feel free please to correct me on this). However, their closing does have a bright light to the end of it.
In their final board meeting, they decided to make all of their software code available as Open Source! What does this mean for you? Well, there are is a demo on their new website showing off some of what their in-house 3D engine could do. And if you're so inclined, and have some programming skills, you can download the source code for that engine, and start creating your very own game! How cool is that? You rarely get the opertunity to have unrestricted access to a commercial quality 3D rendering engine. Who knows, maybe we'll see some great things come from this.
So if you're interested, head on over to their new SourceForge site and give it a go. |
