It looks like Half Life 2 is going to be delayed until April 2004 if not even later. It is being delayed because some of the source code was stolen and they need time to rewrite parts of the game. It was being told by Vivendi Universal Games and some people are saying that they don´t belive it until Valve confirms it but I have to say that it doesn´t look good (remember when Vivendi told people that HL2 was being delayed and Valve said it wasn´t being delayed). If Half Life 2 really is being delayed then I guess ATI is being pretty upset since they paid alot of money to get their new 9800 XT bundled with Half Life 2. You can find one of many articles about the delay here. |

Glad I bought a 19" monitor instead of a 9800 pro now. With HL2 delayed I see no reason to rush out and spend 400 on a top of the line DX9 card. |

Valve says there's no delay. They will issue an official statemente in a couple of days. |

Not only is it delayed, as I stated in the other post, a playable version is now available on various sources. |

The playable version is the result of various parts of the stolen content thrown together and hacked about with. It’s not a genuine build, and should be avoided like SARS. And no, I don’t know where to get it or where it came from, but I would imagine the usual BitTorrent sources will have got hold of it by now. |

Where did you hear this ? All I herd was (halflife2.net) that Valve didn´t want to make a any comment until later.

Our exclusive visit with Gabe Newell and Valve Software did confirm that only a SMALL PORTION of the source code was taken. This is different than most of the reports. The entire source was not taken. Straight from Gabe Newell.
No Mention Of Half-Life 2 Delay. So far Half-Life 2 is shipping for the HOLIDAYS.
It appears that Valve Software is really close to getting the hackers. They seem to have their names written on a whiteboard. It's no wonder that it's business as usual at Valve!

SOURCES CLOSE to Valve Software tell us that despite wires – including us – picking up a Les Echos report that Half Life is delayed, it won't be. And it isn't.
Apparently Valve is close to issuing a statement about all of this – and our sources maintain that it's still going to ship in the "holiday" period – Yuletide to you and me.

and i can't find the URL where a VU guy said that the lauch date was up to Valve, not VU

Fellow Half-Life fan site, HalfLife.org send word that they've recieved a response from Doug Lombardi after they had sent off an e-mail enquiring about the supposed Viviendi announcement stating that Half-Life 2 has been delayed until April 2004.
We are still assessing the effects of the attack. At this time, we have no further details we can share regarding the theft nor it's impact on the release of Half-Life 2.
Home of Half-Life Radio, HalfLifeSource.com have also recieved a response, not from Valve, but from Vivendi Universal's Mike Thompson who responded with "delay is not confirmed...". This once again highlights the potential communication issues that have plagued Viviendi in times passed. I'd suggest we all wait until Valve have made a public, concrete statement on the topic.

did anyone see the second source leak and the entire game content leak?
Pretty much the entire source code is available and compilable as well as pretty much all of the content for the game. |

I think people expect instant answers from Valve, but of course it doesn't work like that. They have to think thru the implications of what has been leaked. It can take time to figure out what the right thing to do is.
Much better they keep quiet for a bit and come up with a sensible plan, rather than spitting out the first thing that comes into Gabes head. |

ok I don't know if it was here or somewhere else.
But the code was not leaked it was stolen.
Someone that works for Valve or an associated company that has rights to see the software and such that lets it out is a leak. Someone hacking into them and downloading it all is called theft. |
