New screenshots of UT2004 are out, you can take a look at them over at the Gen Gamers site. The new vehicles are looking pretty interesting, and I'm wondering exactly what those spiders are. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
On a side note, this is the first weekend news post at Unreal Ops. Just shows you that it's a busy time in the community! |

um....... "Spider mines" ?........ I guessing thats what they are since epic said the game had "Spider mines" and those look like spidey like.

True Raven, but there aren't to many ways to make a tank.... Pretty simple concept of a tred-driven base with rotating barrel. Once ya get that down, most start looking about the same.
I'm quite impressed with the new screenshots. Looks as though this could really be something to look forward to.
Though honestly, I am somewhat worried that there are "spiders" in the game. That was one of the things on my list of drawbacks to U2. You put spiders into a game, and it just starts to feel as though they've lost some of the "creativity" as in: "Oh hell, we don't know how to scare em anymore, so just add spiders!" type thing. While they look great and all, I just hope their not overused as they kindof seemed to be in U2. (anyone else find planet hell annoying as "hell" for that very reason?) |

yah i found it annoying also, but you gotta admit, watching them run around in flames was pretty entertaining.
also i was wondering if they got the spider mine idea from Starcraft? |

I'm okay with the spiders mines even though the U2 spiders made me want to snooze. Spider mines get a pass in my book of fps no-no's because the "spider" part of it is simply a vehicle for a crawling bomb.
It's fighting actual spiders that everyone abhors because it's just so utterly uninventive. It's like... the developer needed a generic, pesky, persistent foe.... "oh yeah.... spiders!". |

Actually, what I would have loved to seen would be a "roller" style mine. A large ball that simply rolls along as it tracks its target. 1) Their a little quicker, 2) They're not spiders, and 3) Their not usually seen in games  |

Don't want it? Don't get it. But leave the fun out there for the rest of us who choose to.
Sheesh, by the way some people are sounding, it's as though they never should have released anything beyond UT.... and that would have been a true shame, as well, no matter how good a given game is at the time, it will eventually be overshadowed by other, more modern, "great games"....

I see there is a egypt map in UT2k4, I wanted to take a better look at the 2 man buggy or the enclosed seat... this all looks preety done to me, maybe they actually can hold this release date... NAAAAAH! |
