wow the shock etc looks amazing.

*sob* a new comp and already I need a new gfx card. Crying or Very sad

Wish my parents knew more about gfx cards when they boughy my comp.....Im stuck with a stupid FX 5200 Mad

. Well better than my old Voodoo 3, but still I need to go buy a new guy.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for someone on a bugdet......I really dont want to hit more than 150.

Also when it comes to gfx cards does anyone seem to find certain companies better than others (the company that makes the cards not the chip technology such as nvidia or ati)

9600xt's are excellent right now.... granted you'll be paying a little more than the 150, more like 170 but its a excellent card.

Right and i meant there's nothing wrong with that card...but since Im looking for one around $150 the 9600XT is the best buy.

I've also been looking at the 9800 Pro 128 which I found for $209 with shipping!

nice, but thats more then 150.

heres my advice, set ya max price down by 50, so whenever you got buy something, it sint bad if you raise the price by 50, couse thats whats gonna heapen anyway.. Razz

Yup Cheetah, the FX 5950 is the best card currently on the market (yet another new range of cards is set for imminent release though.. *sigh*; ho hum, at least maybe it'll make the 5950 become affordable), but the 256mb is somewhat unnecessary, from what I hear.

I hope you dont expect the card to last 3 years......with they likes of Halflife 2 coming out they are already saying currnet cards will run it pretty well......ONLY pretty well. Meaning the next game to come out will make your card chug. The mem will help but ultimately its the bus speed that becomes the bottleneck. I used to think like you and try and get the best. But now I realize its better to buy the ~200 cards like once every 2 years since they are normally pretty darn close in performance AND they cost half of the best cards out there.

Either way, that card will do you know for some time yet. And Im aware that the 9800 pro is $200 but when I looked at the performance boost between that and the 9600xt and saw that the difference was around 40-50 bucks I figure its worth the extra. But, now I changed my mind again and would rather wait until the new line comes out so the prices drop once again.

I don't know... Half-Life 2 was due for release several months ago, and the engine is designed for the graphics cards of the time. They wouldn't have designed the game for a range of cards still nearly a year away from the shelves, and I haven't heard anything about them giving the engine a graphical overhaul.

I reckon a 5950 would be a great card for another year, and a decent one for a year or so after that. Up to three years, my guess would be that it'd be on around the same level that the high-end or possibly medium-range GF4 cards are now.

As for a medium-range FX or current-gen Radeon, they'll be like earthworms trying to climb Everest in 12-18 months' time... which scares the shit out of me as I have a rubbish FX 5600 Razz

your right, i dont know anything about this shit.
but thats why i need a PC that can keep me gaming for like 3 years, couse i cant, unlike y'all, just put a new Mboard in, or a new grapics card.
