I know some of you are thinking after reading that header, 'Damn that's is a lot of letters!'. Microsoft has released a publicly available version of the Windows XP Service Pack Release Candidate 1. Why did you cover it and what does this have to do with gamers? Well that one is easy to answer.
With computer prices coming down and a lot of cool new games coming out, there is going to be a new batch of PC Gamers coming. What do newer and younger gamers do that is bad sometimes? They download viruses that help make all our lives miserable with DDOS attacks and Spam. The new service pack is making some serious changes to the way firewalls and automatic updates work. This can only mean one thing, less Zombie computers and that means less grief for you and me. I will download it and try it out this week and get some feedback to you. In the meantime I have found probably the best and most update-to-date article on SP2 for your reading enjoyment.
Recently we did a poll of what kind of content you wanted to see here and it was split right down the middle between keeping things the same (Unreal news and Gaming related news) and more detailed Unreal related. We have decided to split the difference between the two. We are going to expand our interviews and reviews of Unreal and Unreal Engine based news. We are also am going to start posting more news and articles relating to your computer as well. We have done this a little bit (tweaking articles) in the past and it was met with great response from you readers. So if we come across something that we feel will help you with your computer we will post about it.
Let me know what you think. I should have the UT2004/Memory Performance guide up sometime this week. |

So what's the deal with certain applications not running/functioning after SP2 ?
Given that MS has made a special page for this 'feature' ... /me wonders why anyone would want to upgrade.
I mean ... the last thing anyone would like to see is a game that doesn't function, because of the SP. |

This is my first post after installing. I am very impressed with the security features so far. I have to go to work but I have tomorrow and Wednesday off to test things out. I'll get back with you on the one JaFo. |

THIS SP2 totally screwed up my system! I was in the process of installing it when it completely froze my computer. Then on restart it would not boot up. Not even into safe mode! Nothing. I had to reistall Windows XP from scratch.I lost about 60 GB of data due to this beta. I cation anyone attempting this to either wait for the final or back up important stuff! |

That's your own fault ... it's not called a beta/release candidate for nothing. |
