not really, by the time you factor in finding and downloading the program, and running it and everything, it's about the same.

I prefer to keep from downloading 10000000000000000's of little apps to clog up my machine... but to each their own

I have a few pc's that are really crappy when it comes to popups, and any bandwidth i can spare would be great when it comes to those pc's

I'm assuming that by Pop-Ups, in this case, is the Windows Messenger Service, which allows an administrator to send a broadcast message, in a little window, to any or all users.

Some people have begun using it to send advertisements via the internet.

This is not to be confused bith "Pop-ups" in your web browser which annoy you when you are looking for hot naked chicks on the internet and pretty soon all of your screen is filled up with little browser windows. I hate that. BUt then I use Mozilla with built-in pop-up blocker which just makes a quiet "ding" when a pop-up is encountered.

A router should be very simple to set up to share your connection with, but opening up a single IP address, such as your computer's internal address, is kinda defeating some of the security features of NAT. If you can forward specific ports instead, it might be more safe than opening the entire IP address. My router apparently doesn't allow for port forwarding, bummer.

Jeez, just open the services windows click on stop and you're done! THis is assuming you know where the Services window is. Another good reason to do it manually, you learn something useful.

Also, I don't like downloading little bits of code from who knows who. Next thing you know my computer is sending all of my browsing habits to someone online! I'd just rather not run suspicious code.

GRC (Gibson Research Corporation) is nothing like that, i wouldent dlaod it from like a random site no, but that site is good, read the stuff on it.
hey, if you dont like it, i dont care, do it whatever way you want it, i was just thinking maybe i could help someone with that. you might not find it usefull, but someone else might.

GRC? Why didn't you say so!?

Of course I still think it's faster to just open the services window, but whatever floats your boat.

FYI to those who don't know. GRC (Gibson Research Corporation) makes some of the best utilities and applications you can get anywhere. GRC has always had a high reputation as being an honest, and helpful software company and as far as I know, have never disappointed anyone I know.

I recommend you check them out and see what's going on over there.

Wink Sometimes I don't read your posts very carefully... j/k

I didn't really read the Link when you posted it, and I still think Manual Method is better, but GRC has always been about quality and honesty, some things you dont' see much of in online software makers. His Spinrite program has saved a couple of hard drives for me. Even got back about half of a Hard drive that windows marked with bad sectors, just cause it was hot (summer day, poor cooling in the building).
