Patch on the Way + More Security

Good news for honest gamers! Epic's DrSiN stopped by in the Atari forums to let people know about the new patch and it's security features. Interestingly enough, some proud botters responded to SiN's comments, and made me think up my weekly question:What do you personally think about people who use bots / cheats / hacks? Are they talented programmers, or n00bs who need to get a life?

their both... but mainly their assholes that ruin the experience for true n00bs and non cheaters that love to game and like to play fair....

Nobody knows who the botters are. Some are programmers at least on the side, but we dont' have any clue about where they live, where they work, what their average day is like.

From reading their posts in the Atari forums I can tell that at least some of them are socially inept. I would be much more impressed if they were capable of putting complete thought into their posts.

Anyway, I'm all for putting in security against cheats and bots, but I don't really play online either. I usually just play for a few minutes single player to keep sharp (for me anyway) and sometimes to get the heartrate going. Otherwise I really only play LAN.

My mind cannot comprehend why someone would even bother to build cheats and bots. If they are as easy to make as some people claim, then there is no value in doing it. People who use the cheats are trying to look good against other players, but it's false comparison.

It comes down to them wanting to spoil fun for other people, pure and simple. They get their jollies by chasing players from the servers. Yeeha!

I don't avoid the online games because of cheaters, I just think that it's more fun to play against people you know. That way, if someone's caught cheating, you can gang up on them and beat the SH!T out of them!!

The people who make the programs are talanted. The people who use these programs are 1 step away from the special olympics. If you can't win a game, against other people, by yourself then practice and become better. Don't take the easy way out kids! Wink

your not a talented programer if you use the hack, if you make it your good. but i think there better ones. if your that good you wont be detected.
and so many people use hacks etc, they dont program it emself.

Oh man do I remember the good days when my roommate and I would host Red Faction games and every cheater would come play our game cause he had a warez version of the game so we couldn't patch up. The best part was that tears came to my eyes as I still fucked em in the arse. It was so beautiful to see a flying cheater get his ass railed like no other by my twitch shots. Oh man.....those were damn good times.

To be honest cheaters allowed me to have the most fun......because often they would bitch that I cheated even though we were the only 2 legit players in the game. Oh man it was soo fun watching them leave in frustration. The only downside was once they left that meant one less piece of cannon fodder.

I remember we would play with FF on just so we could go around and TK our own dumbass teammates as they would either not know how to cap the flag or they would purposely join our team and then hide with the flag so we couldn't score. Unfortunately for them, it really only dragged out the hunt and delayed the inevitable capping by me or my roomie. It became a game to see which of us reached him first to cap him and grab the flag. We still won almost every single time (In fact I can't even remember when we DID lose)

ahh....noobs(and cheaters)......they bring back damn good memories.

Yeah but you weren't a cheater were you? We normally left the legit players alone unless they got in the way or shot at us first and instead just hunted for the cheaters till they went crying home to mommy. Mr. Green

I guess I don't enjoy playing against strangers very much. I've played LAN games since DOOM (remember building a Null-Modem Cable to play 1-on-1).

I have a Cable connection that rocks my socks, but somehow it's not the same. Maybe iI'm picking the wrong servers or something.

I'm not saying that I'd be pissed going against you guys, Kharnellius, but I'm pissed off by the cheaters. I played against on aimbot once and that was it for me. He basically didn't do anything but stand around picking people off. I think he could shoot through walls, but it's been a while.

Heh, I hear ya man. I don't play online right now cause all I have is dail-up. But by the end of summer I will have broadband of some sort when my buds and I move into our new townhouse!!! Mr. Green

All I can tell you is that you won't be disappointed in your online gaming. I played UT2004 a few times so far online and for the most part I can't tell the difference.

Mostly sucks when a 56K user joins.

I don't mind the connection speed, but the effect of not playing against people I know mostly (and cheaters).
