Well it has been five weeks since the game has been released. That is plenty of time for the other game sites to step aside for a minute and let a Fanboy review the game! Seriously though, while I was finishing the review yesterday I realized that I had never had done a review of an Unreal video game before. That is pretty crazy!

I tried not to make it too long or boring so please stop by the forums and leave some feedback. |

Yeah sorry Tych but I gotta agree...I have had so much damn fun on the original CTF-Coret in UT. I have no idea why you would consider the map to be the worst. I love how the 2 main paths to each base basically interweave so tightly. There are some seriously neat strategies you can utilize in that map.
*perhaps its a typo on Tychie's part but after reading it again it doesn't seem like it*
Edit: Oh yeah....I do agree about the damage indicators.....I die all the time because my peripheral vision must suck or something. Should make it so you can have the screen flash again. |

Coret was one of the worst maps ever for Flak Spam. Period. The Flak could not have been put in a worse place. To the second guest comments Niven and Dreary were close as well. To the first guest. Omg I stopped reading because I didn't agree with something. What are you in 3rd grade? I didn't ask for everyone to agree with me and it is a shame that you didn't read through it and comment on the whole article. So there is the door. Mmmkay bye. |

I'm fine with the damage indicators, although they do seem to be less visible in low light conditions for some reason. Even if you miss them, you can't miss your own pain sounds...
I very much agree about Geothermal being the worst map of all time, but my reason is because the enemy you kill instantly reappears right in front of you. Worst-placed spawning spots ever. It's hell in insta or nw, because flak secondary is about the spammiest substance known to man.
As for worst UT map, I'd probably go for Command because of the ridiculous trans-down-the-pipes trick.
My criticism for UT2004 would be that the game dynamic of Onslaught isn't very fun- it's the kickass vehicles that make for the enjoyment factor. Perhaps that's just my view having played XMP though, which has to be one of the finest team-based gametypes of all time.
I'd also criticise the AVRiL because NO weapon should *ever* take aim out of the equation, whatever the circumstance, and the Grenade Launcher which tbh is just a waste of space. The flak secondary remains annoying as ever, which is a UT2003 criticism really. That said, 'tis a 95/6% game. |

1) Niven
2) I agree. A fatal flaw which autmatically raises Coret out of anyone's cellar. Oh, and Niven.
3) The AVRiL isn't infallible - it can be dodged in the Manta, Raptor, and Scorpion, it can be shot down easily, and it's very slow.
The GrenadeLauncher is actually very good for stealth killing - for instance, you wan to do some major damage to a node without attracting a lot of attention before it is too late... unload your supply of grenades on the node... then detonate! Same with taking out tanks. Both of those weapons (and the Mine Layer) are vital to balance the infantry with the vehicles. |

Re the grenades, you make a good point, although loading them into Hyperblast][ is just ridiculous, and in AS maps I'd far rather have a maxed-out biorifle than a 'nade launcher. You haven't altered my opinion on the AVRiL however, and it remains one of my chief gripes about Onslaught.
Niven... yeah I suppose that was something of a combo-whore's paradise (and a perfect showcase for why 6-rockets is a bad weapon design choice), but it can't compare with Geothermal, although it comes fairly close to Command. |
