Dear Admin,

I wrote last reply before reading yours. I hope you understand i didnt want to screw up your forum or go off-topic.

I just wanted to prove to buzz that ppl can get upset about they way some posts are compossed. I have made my point and will keep on-topic from now on.

The political quote was intended not as an anti or pro statement but as an argument that if you mean peace then be peace and dont be voilent in words or deeds. Very Happy

Buzz, if you really were a TRUE UNREAL FAN with capitals and everything you should've known Buzz is a big name in the Unreal scene.

But really, you are definately not the one, nor the only like you say.
Of course you shouldn't change your name just because somebody else has the same one.
It's nobody's fault if people get confused by something like this though, so you can't blame anybody.
If somebody writes a post using the name Tycho people would automatically assume it was UO's Tycho as well.

I don't really see how much you earn has anything to do with swearing.
Writing in a forum isn't about impressing people just like you say, but holding netiquette in high value is something very desirable.
Nobody NEEDS anybody to tell them what to do, but that's the way the world works.
Even online... that has nothing to do with cowardism either if you ask me.
You say you started swearing to make a point, but I've found that swearing usually commences when people don't have anything of real value to add.
Swearing is usually a result of feeling powerless, so using those words won't help you make your point, but exactly the opposite.
That's all in my experience anyway, but I'm sure most would agree.
Right after that you said you'd disapear, so I suppose you won't even read this anymore.

I could e-mail you personally, but this isn't really directed to you personally; it's really meant for everybody that results to swearing when something doesn't happen like they want it to.
It's just a request, so everybody's free to do with it whatever they want.

Koetje, while I appreciate your idea to show how profanity does actually have an impact, I don't understand why you reacted like you did.
Insulting people personally online isn't usually a very good idea.
About your comment on having your Big Thing being dependant on 1 little e-mail...
I just read Tycho's followup post, and it seems Mark Rein wasn't telling the complete truth after all.
Again it's just 2 stories and everybody's personal opinions, but of course this was a Big Thing for a lot of people, including the community as a whole.

Finally: read the followup post, as it includes some more important info for those interested.
Even more finally: Glad to read some ideas emerge on how things might not be completely lost yet.
I was afraid too much damage had been done, but perhaps things could still turn out to be less than a complete letdown.

if this flame war (not counting the last few entries, ) keeps going on i WILL lock this topic and ban Buzz's and all the other people who have been flaming this threads IP addresses. I dont like to do this because i believe in free speach, but this is getting a little out of line. BTW Koetje i accept your apology, jut try to keep it down a little Wink

BTW "buzz" you said earlier that you would donate money to the cause. plz when this poll on the front page gets over and it passes, to quote yourself "put your money where your mouth is" and donate that money! I for one think that this was an excellent idea in the first place and if it wasnt for you starting the "pledeg a-thon" i wouldent have put money in there either. so in a way if this thing does work out, your kid will have something more to lookup to you for! For helping out the community that you so love and enjoy that you gave it some of your own hard earned money to help it in its time of need!

this is not at all a flame or anything i was just encouraging you ane every other person in the Unreal Community to put aside your differences in opinions and center around a needy event that we all want to happen!

To be on the constuctive site:

Isnt it possible to get a bank back you up? I mean write a solid buisnessplan were you can show that you gonna make money from this event and for a percentage a bank will back you up.

Also i did read a thread about someone selling his rig for only 150 $
Maybe he can/wanna donate it ?
and maybe unrealops can make some money with pounding some of their rig as a loan.

When i did organize the Lan's we let ppl pay on forehand so we had some money to start with. So i dont think that you dont have any money? Also all suppliers invoiced us after the event, so we had collected all money from our customers.

Can you be more specifice in how much money their has to be raised (or is it only because someone has to back you up in case you dont make enough? )

On personal note:

I did organize some events (not only LAN's) for the game community and i think that only the iniative of trying to start something is admirable. That is why i let myself go a bit. I really got the feeling it wasnt appriciated. I know how difficult it is and how much stress is involved with those events (like i said ... something goes wrong no matter how good you plan it)

Just try to solve this with the persons organizing it dont put them down because they tried. (but that is my humble opinion)
