Well the last 11 hours have been interesting. I go to work and come back home to a crazed mess with all kinds of rumors. I am hear to clear some things up and see if we can make a last ditch effort to save this. After reading the official Atari forums this seemed to be the popular idea. 'Tycho bailed because he was in over his head.' 'Tycho is being immature because he is mad.' 'Tycho didn't get back with Epic but once.'
I will explain things in a little more detail to everyone. I emailed Mark four different times and two phone calls one of which actually got through. What some people don't seem to grasp here is that I DID TRY and I DID do my homework, only to get the same song from Mark I have heard again and again. I even bent my standards (dropping Non-Unreal content) to make sure I didn't upset Epic.
As far as the poll is concerned, when you guys spend 4 years on a hobby and have someone dismiss it whenever it is convenient for them or to only acknowledge it when you post something wrong or they disagree with, you would be pissy too.
Here is where I stand on this. Some may think I was using this to bail on the Expo and I am not a quitter. There has been enough of a response to were I am going to see if we can do this completely on our own. Once and for all by the fans for the fans. So I put this to everyone out there. Should we do a fundraiser to come up with some capital for this event? |

50.00 from 200 people = 10,000.
60.00 from 200 people = 12,000.
75.00 from 200 people = 15,000.
I'm sure if you got majority of the capitol, you could also gain some sponsors, but I wouldn't count on Epic again. |

Good grief. I haven’t had time to read through the INA or UO threads concerning the Expo yet, but at first glance the whole thing just stinks.
Yes, a fundraiser would be a great idea and I would surely donate. |

A fundraiser is a good idea @ this point I think. I can throw some cash down. Might be about $100, but it's something. I'd even pay a ticket charge on top of that. Keep us updated. |

Sure, why not? Set an amount and a deadline, take pledges and make the final decision when you've got a good idea of the amount you can raise.
I'll be happy to contribute. |

I posted a link in the Atari thread asking people to show thier support for this. I'll check back tonight to see how it's going. I'll help where I can.

Epic wasn't funding this to begin with, why does your (questionable) refusal to try and patch the problem automatically mean a fundraiser?
I can understand your frustration but relying on the generosity of others two months before the scheduled event isn't what I would call a sound financial strategy. |

I wouldn't be opposed to spending $70-85 for a ticket if it would help. Maybe raising the standard price to 60/person (as haxor mentioned) and maybe add the option for ppl to donate if they can.
It's a shame that your backer pulled out, and I hope you can still manage to get the event rolling again. Either way, your efforts are truely appreciated.
Keep us updated..... |

I'd be taking a good look at the costs involved to see if it could be trimmed some. $12,000 seems a bit much (to me who has no idea what is planned or what the cost are broken down to).
I'd think that selling tickets would be a good idea. Raffles are always good, but you need to get a license to do that.
I know I'd try and make it if it were close enough to attend.
Can't understand why Epic would not want to jump on the chance to do an Expo, esp. if someone else were willing to do all of the work on it. |
