It sounds good, but we really don't need a list of people to donate... we need people to donate
There's a big difference between saying and doing.
Hopefully people will find Tycho's PayPal link and want to donate and get this thing running again |

my idea was to see howmany people want to donate, and howmuhc money we can get, no maybe not all will donate, but not all will see the link, so maybe it balances out. and if people see howmany others give money, maybe they reconsider and do it to. |

I just want to go on record as saying that I apologize for the statement earlier in the post about $12,000 being a lor of money. I didn't know the scope of the project at that time.
Since reading more about it, I can safely say that $12,000 would ntobe a lot of money for something as ambitious as this.
I can't see why Epic wouldn't want to help out. I mean, a couple thousand donated by them would be like a drop in a bucket. A pretty big bucket.
Maybe they just needed to be more informed or more involved. I think that many companies fear a haphazard event can make them look bad, if the are endorsing it. However, being willing to send representatives and so forth is as much an endorsement as sending money.
I think Mark should have at least replied and made some brief statement about why he would not be willing to put forth some monetary contribution. Maybe it would be possible to set his mind at ease.
Not doing anything is of no help to anyone.
Tycho, please don't get too bummed out just yet. There may be hope and I'd hate to see the site suffer from ill feelings, as you may justifiably feel at this time. |

Why do people keep saying Epic was/wasn't going to make a financial contribution? That was never the issue! |

Cheetah, your other thread was deleted.
We asked you to not create a site - we are in charge of this, and we want NO confusion as to where people need to go to donate. |

If it's not about money, then what is it about? So far I've not found any thread that said exactly what Epic isn't contributing, what needs to be contributed. Basically, a frank, and honest description of what is going on.
"Financial backer" ?? WHO?
What exactly are we missing from Epic? If they are not contributing money, then what do we need them for? To post their name on the wall?
Who the heck is Guest? I've seen him posting quite a bit around here lately. If there is something important to say, a registered name is more respectable. |

From what i have gathered is that the "backer" tyco had would not shell the money until he was given some type of formal letter from epic saying that they would be attending and giving there seal of approval, there for epic would never have to give a penny to anyone. now this backer could of been a bank, a freind, or a local company but one thing is the money wasnt coming from epic. |

Who the backer is or was is of no concern to anyone here. They wanted written word from Epic (care of Mark Rein) that Epic would be allowing the event and would be providing the prizes / media that had been stated, i.e. CliffyB showing up, the UE3 demo, etc. At no point whatsoever was Epic contacted for funds - end of discussion.
This thread is for the fundraiser - if you have ideas or comments, those are welcome. As for the situation in the past, it is over, and so is the discussion of it.
You all have been warned. |

If we show enough support for the event the sponsors will give a hand into making this happen i garauntee it. negativity over what has happened is going to do nothing but hurt the whole thing. The sponsors want the PR and want to be apart of this community, we just have to show we are willing to accept them. they will dish the cash out if they see its in their best interest, but if they see negativity about the event, they might take it that we dont want this, and therefore spending the $$ would not be supported by their represented companies. show your support, i garauntee they are and will be watching |
