are they on the same workgroup?
what OS are both PC's running?
are you using a legit copy of windows on both?
what network card is in each system?
details are your friend. |

And people wonder why I hate XP home...
The 1394 network card looks like a firewire card (IEEE 1394 is Firewire, but that's strange to see under the network settings)
So PC2 can ping 1, but not vice-versa.... hrm... And there is no Firewall software running on either?
Have you tried forcing a connection, or are you just browsing? Test for force:
start->run
In the RUN dialog, type in the following:
\\computer_name
Where computer_name is the name of the PC you're attempting to access.
Try this on both computers.
Also, in your network settings on both computers, do you have all of the following installed:
TCP/IP
IPX/SPX/NetBIOS
NetBIOS
They should all be listed as protocols on your system.... and just because I know you'll ask, here's how you check:
Right click on your desktop Network icon (Network Neighborhood I think, can't remember what they call it in XP-Home, and I rename mine )
Choose Properties
Right click on your connection that's listed (typically "Local Area Connection")
Again, choose properties
These protocols should be listed under the general tab.
And while you're in there, make sure "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is installed, as well as "Client for Microsoft Networks" |

sometimes i hate i got dutch windows
i dident look at my network settings for the cards, my computer>propertys>hardware>some button i dont know in enlgihs the name for, has a whole list of hardware.
i got norton, but thats no prob, couse it has been working before, for like 2 years, then 2 weeks, and now not anymore.
also the router has a built in firewall i think (hardware)
i connected trough:
run>cmd>ping [ip]
and: >ping [pcname]
neither, il try your way now.
no, i wouldent ask, i know where to find that, but wise dision to typ it in anyway, you neveR know what i do and do not know.
i got TCP/IP, and the client, and some more shit, maybe couse its dutch, but when i look at instal, i see 3 more things, protocol, service, client. and i got 4 things instaled now,
client microsoft networking thing
printer en file stuff
QoS packet planner
internet protocol TCP/IP
edit:
/me hugs peoii in the man way
thanks dude, it works, i think that \\PCname did it, i did that before, but just in explorer, not in run window.
dunno why it makes a difference.
