We were just made aware of a new qualifier leg for the WCG tourney, to be held in the UK. I'm not even going to try to summarize this, because it just looks better this way Wink
Quote:
Multiplay UK has been selected to run the UK leg of the World Cyber Games 2004 tournament. This will include the running of the preliminaries at our i21 event over 27-30 August, followed by the UK finals at ECTS over 1-3 Septermber. The World Cyber Games is one of the largest video games competitions in the world with a Grand Final featuring over 700 competitors from more than 60 countries, with total prize money of over US$ 350,000 For the first time the championships will be held in America with UK winners joining the other national finalists for a weeklong grand final, game conference and cultural festival held in San Francisco in October.

The games chosen for the UK leg are:
Counter Strike: Condition Zero (PC)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (PC)
Project Gotham Racing 2 (XBOX)

The preliminaries will take place at the i21 LAN event at Newbury, Berkshire over 27-30 August. i21 is the latest in the i-series of LAN events run by Multiplay UK, which are the largest events of their kind in the UK. Featuring many hundreds of attendees, i21 is a non-stop 4-day multiplayer gaming fest including a huge BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) arena, organised tournaments, exhibition and demonstration areas and some great organised social events. The gamers who qualify at the i21 preliminaries will then go on to compete in the UK finals at Earls Court, London at ECTS (the European Computer Trade Show) over 1-3 September. The winners of the UK finals will then be flown out expenses-paid to represent the UK at the World Finals in San Francisco in October.

Full details on the tournaments and registrations will be available soon. In the meantime you can read up more on the World Cyber games at http://www.worldcybergames.com You can also chat about the tournament on the official World Cyber Games 2004 forum. You can sign up to attend the i21 LAN event here. The WCG 2004 preliminaries will only be open to registered attendees of the i21 event, so secure your place early to avoid disappointment!
I'd go... But I dont feel like flying to the UK. My arms would be dead tired after a journey like that...

/end corny joke
