Well for those of you who haven't gotten enough from the previous Doom 3 posts, heres some more! I discovered this trick when i was visiting CTRL+ALT+DEL, and reading the postings for yesterday. By the way, CAD has an extremely funny Doom 3 comic up for today, Yesterdays isnt too bad either, so check em out.

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.
Find the line:
seta image_cacheMegs "32"
change 32 to 256. |
Note, use this tip at your own risk. Nobody in the original thread is sure what this setting does, but it seems to increase peoples ability to run the game exponentially. One example was having everything set to medium settings, and then trying this, and then seeing such a performance boost that they were able to set everything to highest settings. |

It does indeed work. At least for me anyway. I set my cacheMegs to 256. Half of what my total memory is (512). I can play the game at a higher setting now. No crashes or problems so far. Runs great. |

Perhaps that's a default for someone with minimum memory and they forgot to adjust that when choosing other options. Or maybe they don't check memory size and adjust accordingly.
Link I read said to adjust this to 1/4 to 1/2 of total memory. |

It worked for me to. Have any of you ATI owners tried out the 4.9 drivers? They are supposed increase DIII's performance. |

iv read the whole thread a few days ago, and i chose not to do it, mainly couse my game runs great on high performance.. but to becouse it dident work for half of the people, no one knows exactly what it does, it might slow your PC down after playing, and some more i forgot.. but its your choise.. also it has not been proven it increases anything, alot of people see no FPS increment after doing it..
also you forgot you have to change this useCache "1"
else it wont do nuthing at all.. as sayed in the trhread.. |
