Raven Software ,the developer behind Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and the Star Trek Elite Force series, is currently developing the next installment of the Quake series. Eurogamer recently posted an interesting article piecing together some information about this ,until recently, top secret title. They begin this article discussing some Q4 screenshots I and a couple of lucky UO readers checked out earlier this week. The screenshots were of course of Q4 and they looked very much like Doom 3. Raven Software is using the same D III technology to power Q4. The screenshots were pulled from the net, by Raven/ID Software, but are currently available in latest editions of PC Gamer in the states and PC Zone in the UK. The main course of this article reveals that Q4 will be a direct sequel to Q2.

Quote:
The most interesting revelation so far seems to be that in narrative terms Quake 4 is actually a direct sequel to Quake 2, and takes place just hours after the events of that game, and consists of a mixture of solo missions and battles that have you tackling the Strogg shoulder to shoulder with your fellow marines - most of whom didn't prove terribly useful in Quake 2.

Other details include; the multiplayer is supposed to be similar to Q3 and unfortunately will not include vehicles available in the single player portion. The shotgun, blaster, machinegun, and nailgun will return in this sequel. Finally, in the single player mission you will get to assault the Strogg homeworld. If you want more details purchase PC Gamer, PC Zone, or visit Eurogamer.

Now to shift gears just a bit. I see many of you have voted in our HL 2 poll. I am glad we didn’t wait too much longer to post it because HL 2 may go gold anytime! Gabe Newell of Valve Software posted in the Half Life 2 Fallout forums letting us know that a release candidate (RC) has been distributed to Vivendi Universal Games on September 16th, 2004. If they approve a going gold announcement is bound to follow. Let’s all cross our fingers and hope this RC is ready for primetime!

Well it just depends. If you have some disposable income to waste then you might want to give HL2 a shot. If you are tight on income you might want to read some reviews, talk to friends who own it, and make a decision.

I will purchase it without reading any reviews just because so many of my friends have raved about the first game (I was playing UT instead Very Happy) and the engine looks fab. I am also going to purchase Star Wars Battlefront this Tuesday unless the reviews are awful. Man games are almost as expensive as a crack problem. Razz

Yea I preordered the Halo 2 special edition mainly for the fancy case.

Gamestop tried to get me to order the fancy Half Life 2 but 79.99 is just freaking too much to pay. So I just pre-ordered the regular flavor. I think GTA:SA is coming out in October which will be even more money unless I just decide to rent it.

burgess/raven
you have a PS2/Xbox?
GTA:SA might be delayed again.
Quote:
When Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) hold their 'strategy conference' next Tuesday, in Tokyo, the look on the media's faces will be that of "I told you so". Rumours have been flying around the UK gaming media, including respectable trade only publications like MCV and EDGE, that a slimmed down version of the Playstation 2, similar to the PSone, is in development. Bloomberg have already announced that Ken Kutaragi has been earmarked for the conference, suggesting a major announcement from SCE. Held just days before the 2004 Tokyo Game Show, it seems to be the ideal launch pad for a new console.

Claims have been made that the development of the revamped machine is further along than many would think, and that it is on course for a Fall 2004 release. With this being the case, could San Andreas' delay be due to pressure from Sony? The Japanese giant knows the huge potential of the Grand Theft Auto series, and understands that it alone can make gamers part with their cash in exchange for new consoles. Many will dismiss this with "Vice City suffered the same delay", but this too can be discounted by looking into Rockstar's current campaigns for the game's promotion. Several magazines across the United States and continental Europe have already printed advertisements for the game, with the original release dates. (19/22 October respectively). Clearly this 'push' from Sony will have come in the past two weeks, considering Rockstar's initial confidence of meeting the deadline.

Several online sources have also suggested that with November being a crucial month for console competition (Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas both launched within two weeks of each other), Sony are eager to crash Microsoft's party. With only one of their 'killer-apps' available to launch at the same time as the console, Sony's contractural agreement with Rockstar may have been stretched to allow both to launch simultaneously.

While there's no official word on this, all will be revealed this Tuesday, when journalists will scrutinize Kuturagi's every word.

burnout 3 looks cool from what iv seen on the commercials here. but its not for PC is it? damnit!
