1UP.com sat down with Mathieu Ferland Producer of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for a question and answer session. The heart of this preview deals with the cooperative play mode of SC:CT.
Gamers will be able to choose co-op play between Xbox Live, system link, or split screen. Sam Fisher will remain playable in the single player portion of the game. During multiplayer he is being replaced by 2 new characters. Ubisoft is even designing maps strictly for the co-op play.

EGM: Will you be building a completely new set of levels for two-player co-op?
Ferland: New set of levels for all co-op maps! Considering it emphasizes two players working together to reach new and otherwise unreachable sections in a map, it is necessary to build maps specifically designed for the co-op mode. It is story-driven and has close ties with the single player campaign in which Sam Fisher remains the hero, but they are sort of complementary objective based missions in relation to the main storyline. |
During a multiplayer game players will also be able share images from optic cables and sticky cams. They also touch on using each other to reach parts of the map that are normally unreachable.

New moves, gadgets and strategies are integrated as well, and replayability is great. And those maps are totally different from what we have in the offline experience; they are made to be played with two operatives. Big walls impossible to climb alone and pipes too high in the air to be reached by a single player are just some examples of a new type of gameplay where you think and play in terms of cooperation. |
The Splinter Cell games are certainly evolving at a much faster rate than most other game franchises. Hopefully Ubisoft will release an Xbox Live enabled demo to test out before retail. Check out the full article by visiting 1UP.com.
