Ths following thing is something that I have been thinking about lately as it is about that time for a computer housecleaning. What I want to ask everyone out there is this, How Often Do You Re-Install Windows? |

Hmm... twice per year per computer probably
Not counting recurrent re-installs on one weekend because stuff refuses to work or the like.
Why do you want to know? |

This is one of those advantage Mac things. Worst case, if you're really worried, you create a new account and see if it's still broken in there. I even just upgraded over the version of the OS I had on my old G4 when I copied everything over to a new G5 last month. Runs great, still got prefs in there from 10.0 public beta!
Of course, on the other hand... Half Life 2? What game is this you speak of? |

Too late man. You and your friends hacking activities have already been recorded. Reinstalling windows won't help now |

theres reasons for those... but thats for someone else to discuss, and somewhere else all together
and i usually try to reinstall once every 6 months, or when a major problem comes around, or when i'm upgrading a vital piece of hardware |

Well I've owned my comp for just over 10 months and haven't had to reinstall Win XP Pro yet. Most of the problems that occur I'm able to troubleshoot. |

Well. If Microshaft has anything to do with installing WinXP... I believe that your limited to the amount of installs (registrations) before they make you pay again to register? So I would have to say one time only unless I get whacked with a virus of seriously screw up the system files. |

LOL!! Actually I stopped using mp3's a long time ago. Once I went to a 5.1 quality setup I needed nicer sounding audio file. Ever since WMA's hit the 9 series I jumped ship from mp3s. Downside, I had to dump a lot of music. Upside I have almost a 99% percent legal computer setup (need to pay and register mIRC one of these days) and all of my music is ripped at 192 with 5.1 capabilities.

Actually the re-registering part is true but paying isn't. I reformat and reinstall every 3 months. The only time I have to call them for a new CD numbers is maybe once a year. It takes a whole 5 mins from beginning to end and is definitely worth being able to install when I want. |

I reinstall every 3-6 months, sometimes as often as two or three times a week, depending on how my regedit sessions are going .
As for activation, there are ways around that, eh? |

I purchased a DVD recordable drive from Newegg.com to back up all my data. My drive is a Pioneer 12X mulitformat and was about 80 bills. No problems hooking up but I didn't get ANY software.
I reformat about once every 3 months so I have it down to a science. I have emails form 6-27-02 < current and have reformated several times. |

Backing up is pretty easy. I use Azgaurd which will backup my 1 40 gig drive to spanned CD's (CDR's or CDRW's). The second 80 gig drive is hooked up to a built in RAID controller (mobo is ASUS P4C-800E Deluxe) so that one is automatic. It'll CLONE the 1st 80 gig drive for me |

guys all i got to say is why reinstall when you can image your main hard drive useing Norton Ghost it works wonders it will skip the install process of windows. So all you have to do is install windows 1 time and then image it with all your good programs unedited and boom perfect copy then to restore it just format your main drive and then restoe the image to it boom your all up and running. |
