We asked you, the Unreal Op's community, to vote on which game you thought was worthy of our Game of the Year award for 2004. You voted and by a large majority (43.88%) selected Unreal Tournament 2004.

In many ways I believe this award is more prestigious than many other game site awards. You, the consumer and community, selected UT2004 rather than one person or a gaming website's staff. I would like to congratulate Epic, Digital Extremes, and Atari for putting out one hell of a game! Even with all the competition out there UT2004 can't be beat for multiplayer fun.

Big thank you goes out to MissBurlesque for the award graphic!

Considering 31% of our readers voted HL2 was GOTY I believe UT2004's win was deserving of everything I said. While we, our staff and readers, love Unreal games we also recognize great games using other technologies. And UT2004 is a great game no matter what engine or franchise. So that and all the community mods is why it won.

Actually i agree with the main result. I think that UT2k4 should have beat HL2 and D3, i don't think that HL2 is that good a game. I was just speculating that here, compared to other places, you may be more likely to achieve higher percentages for this game. Personally i'd vote for FarCry with UT2k4 a close second. ^_^

I don't remember if it was HL2 or Halo 2, but about 90% of the votes appeared in 1 mere day.
I'd say that means one of the other game's fansites found out about the poll, and told all its members to vote for their own game.
I'm not saying it was 1 person faking all the votes, although that's possible mayhap, just that... well, that these polls never tell the complete story, I guess. Smile
Oh well, UT2004 still won; yay!
