In what was definitely one of the cooler surprises of the year (releasing a demo before the game), I am interested in hearing everyones thoughts on Republic Commando. While I was a little annoyed at first (primarily because it is a different paced FPS), but I quickly grew to like the 'Squad Idea'. The demo was a perfect blend of not only showing off some of the game, but giving you enough taste of getting the hang of having be a leader of a squad as well. I for one am impressed and I will definitely be picking up this game when it comes out next month. What are your thoughts? |

finally we can experience firsthand all the good things that the various reviews online have been saying about this game. like the graphics. another unreal engine game shows it's worth, huh?
the nicest touch, if you ask me, is the dialogue of your team members. they sound realistic, with a sense of humor. that, and they usually know what to do - taking cover behind barrels and walls, shooting, reviving fellow teammates. your weapons are nicely balanced, a mode of the DC-17 for each situation, and enemy weapons nicely designed to do certain stuff (e.g. ACP array gun - shotgun for close-quarters) and it's all quite nicely balanced IMHO.
however, the enemy AI can still be a bit lacking. i could walk up to a trandoshan and have him simply stare at me before i melee attack him. that really big trandoshan dude with the repeater rifle also sometimes simply stands still while you shoot him and stuff. however, they're MOSTLY alright, and give a decent challenge.
besides, it's still amazingly cool. |

I liked the demo very much, but it took me some time to get used to the squad thing.
I also found at least a bug. "sev" got stuck in a wall and wouldn't move or respond to any commands i gave him. Fortunately its a bug that can be avoided, so after a game restart everything went well.
Once i understood how everything worked it was a blast to play.
I will pick up this game as soon as it shows arround these parts |
