I've had problems with Catalyst 3.6 with my 9800 pro, and my AIW 8500DV.
I DO NOT recommend them... Get 3.5 or 3.2 (I think I'm running 3.5)
I experienced random lockups with 3.6, even when I wasn't playing a game. The OpenGL driver doesn't show 32bit colors (at least in Tribes2) for Catalyst 3.6...
And for overclocking, don't gripe about locking up if you're gonna overclock it... |

I have no AIW card but a Hercules one.
I use Catalyst 3.6 drivers and I play UT2003 a lot. They workes just fine for me.
I use to play in 1600x1200, 8xAF performance, FSAA=Off and my framerate are just great!
One thing that really speed up the perfomance for my, beside but down the details is, run in 1024x768 4xFSAA
Have you the latest BIOS and AGP drivers?
Does all your fans work? I mean when you changed the card it is not impossible one current wire came loose !?
I guess you have not your CPU overclocked!?
If none of this workes and not after a clean reinstall of Windows, I must say that your card might be damage! The lockup's Can be a sign of that...
Good luck! |

Thanks for the advice all. I am trying to narrow it down to one of the following. My overclocked CPU (worked fine with the 4200), The card is being overclocked to much (the omega artifacing test says it's fine) or the drivers. I should know if it is the drivers when I wake up in the morning, as the bitch likes to lock up on my Plus! screensaver. |

While not a fan of ATI myself, I can say honestly that in all the boxes I've got that run ATI cards, I've experienced the "every-other" driver syndrome. Where in the following lies true:
good release
bad release
good release
bad release
etc etc etc
I think (memory serving) 3.6 is on the bad cycle. I'd prolly avoid em and stick with the more commonly accepted 3.5's as Barbos suggested.
I'm actually kinda interested in seeing how you like this card, I've considered it for work in a multimedia box to go in my bedroom for VCD and vivo watching. So I'll definately be buggin ya for details on your opinion of it |

Thanks Morbid I will check that out. So far I think it is NOT the card's overclock but either the Rig's memory overclock or the drivers. I should know more later. |

Hey.
Well I bought a radeon 9700 pro last yr november time. I had many lock up issues with it also. I managed to resolve the lockups by either.
: Increasing AGP voltage to 1.7v
: Not installing the AGP drivers and just sticking to the Windows XP default ones
: Lowering clock speed of my DDR ram 2700 to 2100
Im also on the DNA 1.5.3.6 drivers based on the CAT 3.6. ( Extremly nice steady framerates ). I would also recommend the Omega Drivers.
: Also I found that I had issues when installing the VIA 4 in 1 drivers (Thats if you have a VIA motherboard). |

XL,
I just did a fresh install of XP so I can narrow things down even more.
Thanks |
